What's for dinner?

At the Orb's house it was New York Strip Steak, mashed potatoes, and Columbia Crest Grand Estates 2012 Red Blend. I'd post a picture but we ate it.

And you?

I don't know about tonight yet. But last night was braised beef shortribs in a wine and beer broth sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and Washington asparagus. The wine was Headsnapper 's dark red blend.

I had some gagh, with some bregit lung covered in grapok sauce. Rokeg blood pie for dessert and topped it off with some blood wine.

On my diet, tonight was as always these days a salad topped by some low-fat, low-cal Indian food.

Some baked French fries, coffee, a cranberry muffin.

Hey! I'm a bachelor who never learned to cook, but still cooks better than his beloved mother.

I know. It's just I've never really been motivated to cook. I do like fine cooking when others prepare it, though. Go figure.

I take it you do eat out. It can be quite entertaining to try to reproduce what you ate at a restaurant. Some recipes do require special spices and ingredients. I have found Amazon to be extremely useful for spices that the grocery store does not carry. The only thing I will not try at home is sushi. When I go out for sushi I eat a variety of fish. I do not think that I could find the variety and freshness needed unless I drove to Seattle and went to Uwajimaya, and then I would have to be a major pain buying small amounts of fish that I intended to eat that night:

I went with French onion soup. Onions, sauteed in butter and EVO, added garlic later. Then a bit of sugar to aid carmelization. Flour to make a bit of a roux. Red wine. beef broth, oh and salt and pepper and some herbs. Oh wait, almost forgot. stale French bread cut up. Swill and Parmesan cheese on top. Bake in "chili bowls". Done.

I'm still getting over the flu and so my zesty creations are still a few days away.

A few nights ago I made Manhattan clam chowder with double amount of baby clams and gently sauteed wild sockeye salmon which I cooled, cut into small 1/2" cubes then added it to the broth. It was heavenly.

Carrying along the boring, but yummy, theme. Tonight's creations was honey/garlic chicken breasts and pasta drenched in Alfredo sauce with mushrooms. It too was terrific. :)

Home made Alfredo? I am not the biggest fan of it and the one time I made it I did something I knew that you weren't supposed to do. I used pregrated cheese. For those of you not in the know grated cheese that you buy in the grocery store has been treated with cellulose (think very fine saw dust) to keep it from sticking together. Unfortunately if you cook with it it has the exact opposite reaction. There will be clumps.
