What to you is the most compelling aspect of Gnosticism? Short and simple question but could have answers with much depth.

For me, it's not just about studying scripture or other's works and ideas. Those are merely tools. It's the concept of true self knowledge. I'd have to say that the first influence I had was Carl Jung whom I'm very fascinated with. Many other Western religions, IMO, belittle us with the ideas of original sin and such. I have a hard time reconciling myself to being such a low life form of minimal intelligence that I must believe so many stories to be historical truth. I see so many more possibilities within my life and more importantly within myself.

Hmm, a hard one.

I think the most compelling thing for me is that its a DIY religion. There's no relying on a saviour figure to do all the work, or on a God to grant your wishes. You do it all yourself, which i think makes it all the more satisfying when you believe that you have received a religious experience.

Plus, instead of the blind faith of many other religions, Gnosticism gives the hope of answers to the big questions in this live; Why are we here? What is God? etc

I know that's two, but i'm indecisive.

For me, it's the beauty and completeness of it.

I like that it is, as Paulus stated, "a DIY religion" and that out of all it's allegories, it's main message is coming back to the Light, the One. I can feel the Light as I read the passages. I feel that a person's beliefs should compell them to turn to the Good. Gnosticism is the epitome of turning to the Good. Obviously, this is very appealing to me.
