What's your opinion on Sikhism?

Second, the book of the Sikhs: GURU GRANTHA SAHIB. It was not written by one single man so I cannot tell you who the author is. It is a compilation from generation to generation. It was compiled from all sources, as no other book in the world. THE OLD TESTAMENT is only Jewish, THE NEW TESTAMENT is only Christian, BHAGAVADGITA IS only Hindu, DHAMMAPADA is only Buddhist, JIN SUTRAS only Jaina; but GURU GRANTHA SAHIB is the only book in the world taken from all the sources possible. Its sources come from Hindu, Mohammedan, Jaina, Buddhist, Christian. Such openness, no fanaticism.

The title GURU GRANTHA means 'the book of the masters', or 'the master book'. In it you will find Kabir, Nanak, Farid, and a long line of mystics belonging to different traditions, different schools, as if thousands of rivers are meeting in the ocean.

GURU GRANTHA is like an ocean. I will translate only one sentence of Nanak. He is the founder, so of course his words are compiled in GURU GRANTHA. He was the first master of the Sikhs; then followed a line of nine other masters. Sikhism was produced by ten masters. It is a rare religion because every other religion was created by only a single master.

Nanak says: The truth, the ultimate truth is unspeakable, so please forgive me, I will not speak about it but only sing it. If you can understand the language of music, then perhaps a chord in your heart may be touched. The transmission of the lamp is beyond words.:p

above are not my views but of OSHOs :D

I agree with you Gursikh Ji :D xxx

As I was unaware of Christian writings/writers in the Guru Granth Sahib could anyone point me to those may be found? It could help in a discussion I am having with a friend. Thanks.

my respected frnd Shawn from Texas , when found Guru Granth Sahib by chance said the following words ,

This book introduced me to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, which I subsequently downloaded in its entirety and have been devouring for a couple of weeks. I consider this book to be the most profound I have ever read. I can read it the rest of my life and still not scratch the surface of its profound message. Wow! Me, 50 years old and never investigated the Sikh way of life as put forth in this wonderful book. I've read and studied the Torah and Talmud, the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Qur'an, Sufi writings, Bahai teachings, the Christian bible, the words of Dali Lama, the I-Ching, as addition to practicing my grandfather's Lakota ways, yoga, and the spiritual aspects of martial arts. Well, better late than never. I have searched my whole life for a teaching such as found in this book, a way to help me get back to my creator ...

Thank you Gursikh Ji for the reply.
I did not think so, but I thought that perhaps someone who was known at the time to be a Christian may have writing something that became a part of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji as some Bhagat bani (as some Hindus and Muslims did) that I was unaware of.

I often wonder what time on average Sikhs go to bed? As they must get up early to pray. Anyone know more or less?

Sikhism is a noble and admirable religion imo. Unfortunately the politics of modern India has caused such resentment among a people so-close to each other like brothers from the same family as Hindus and Sikhs.:(

I personally adore Sikhism.

The inclusiveness, the equality of all regardless of race, religion or gender, the beauty of the Guru Granth Sahib's beauty and its deep, mystical poetry, chardi kala (positive attitude), langar (a free kitchen where all may eat), as well as not using murti (icons of worship) and being monotheistic, it's just great!

Overall, Sikhism is awesome. I don't think I've met a Sikh I disliked.

YAH MAN LOL WEEE!!!11111

TAKBIR!

will you explain your words for me !

Waheguru ji ki fateh

I will try Brother, but as you know, words can only walk so far...

In the winter of ones mind, the cold seems so clear, and one is never far away from one's self because one can only see so far. It is only when we contemplate the sleeping lotus, the Guru Granth, that we glimpse the idea of summer and with it the countless seasons thereafter. The mind knows of summer and more, its winter will never be as cold, nor its sight so limited.

That is Sikhism in my opinion.

Basant 5th Guru.

There is One God. By the True Guru's grace, He is obtained.

Beholding the blossom in flowers, my soul is flowering.

Abandoning and forsaking my self conceit,

I am absorbed in the Lord's lotus feet.

O fortunate one, meet thou with thy Lord.

O my soul, remember thou thy God. Pause.

The Tender trees emit abundant fragrance.

Some remain dry like wood.

The spring season has come,

and it now blossoms luxuriantly.

O the Darkage has now arrived.

Sow, sow thou the one Lord's Name.

No, it is not the season for other planting.

Wander and stray thou not in doubt.

One attains to his God, on meeting the Guru,

on whose forehead, such destiny is writ.

O my soul, this is the season to remember the Name.

Nanak utters ever the God, God, God, God's praise.

In my view it is a bit insincere to ask people for their opinions in a DIR that automatically limits the contents of those opinions.

I can see your point, YmirGF
Back a year ago I understood the sections to be a way to categorise ideas rather than repress them. Either our attitudes have become stricter since then or I have just had to learn the rules.

Although it is helpful for me to read the positive comments, criticism could also be worded into a question. Do feel encourage to start a new thread in debates and invite others to participate if that would be more helpful. :)

I was born in a Sikh religion but people do not understand the meaning of true religion at all. We believe what we are asked to believe. Our minds are conditioned and programmed in such a way. We do not know about the religion that arises from within us. All the religions are borrowed ones and if we try to follow them, some kind of inner conflict and burden still remains hidden within us.

Today Sikh people's main energy is concentrated on his traditional looks but not on mind but religion is more about mind but a lot lesser about your posture and looks.

It was a personal opinion. I did not mean to hurt. We can exchange views on that but without any bad language.

Thank you Jazz, it was nice to read your insight. I agree, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib illustrates beautifully how our mind is influenced by the three qualities or gunas:

"O mind, renounce the three qualities, and focus your consciousness on the fourth state." - Sri Guru Amar Das
