With all that goes on during the holidays it's easy to get caught up in all the Foo-For-Rah!
Tell us what is your favourite part of Christmas and why?

I don't know. The presents. Maybe the closeness in my family that isn't seen durning other times of the year. Not that we're a particularly distant family, but we're certainly closer at Christmas time. During Thanksgiving my dad and my brother were giving me flak about being a mormon, and I'm looking forward to christmas because I'm thinking it won't be as bad, since it's Christmas. So the close family time is probably the best. It just makes a nice atmosphere. Christmas time is probably the only time during the winter my house doesn't seem "dark and dreary," but there's not really much physical change that should do that, so the atmosphere is wonderful. That was a really rambling post...

Our family never made a really big deal about christmas. I did like the little nativity scenes my Mom set up, though. She really liked polar bears, so all the "people" were polar bears. Jesus was a little polar bear pup. It was cute. :)

Watching the children open presents... the smiles... wide eyes... and so much love and happiness.
Having my husband home, my kids close, its the best feeling in the world.

December 27th, because to all intents and purposes, it's over...

Awwww... sweet! And I agree! You work hard all year, and this is the one day you get to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor, you see it in the children's eyes... Bringing joy is what it's all about, NOT what you get.

My favorite time is on Christmas Eve after the kids have finally gone to sleep and I set out their stockings and presents and then help my mom get breakfast ready for the next morning.

My favorite time of Christmas is sneaking around at 3:00 AM to put coal in everyone's stockings. Call me sentimental if you must.

awww, I do love breakfast in the morning with mom. I don't help, but I always ***** and complain that it's not on the table fast enough. It's kind a tradition between the two of us. Of course, she got me back last year. She woke me up at 5am, told me breakfast was ready. I got up, showered, came downstairs (groggy) made coffee. Had a cup. Looked around. Everyone was in bed. :) I love my family. :p

Ack! Mr. C reminded me of one of the only traditions that my close family (my mom, my sister and I) have. Since the age of about ten or so, we've had something we watch each year. "Lethal Weapon" is our holiday movie. It's a story of redemption, friendship and of caring for pets! Plus, things blow up, which always puts us in a good mood.

When I was younger the traditional holiday feature was the clunker "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians" (1964) starring a young Pia Zadora (which Mystery Science Theater 3000 aptly ridiculed decades later).

The opening of prezzies in the midst of the family . One package at a time, ever so sloooowly, goaded by the others, preferably after reading out a long rhyme laboriously crafted and supplied by the giver.

And the joy of giving and receiving things that you created yourself or managed to find with a personal touch, other than all mailed ads for "The Gift of the Year" etc. This year, The Gift seems to be a poker set, including chpois, a deck of cards, and whatever. I'd be seriously offended if somebody gave me such a useless thing instead of, say, a dictionary of Sumerian. (Sorry, one is out of print and the other one isn't quite finished yet.)

And the most religious Xmas thing to all Swedes is the watching of the Disney movie cuts on the telly on Xmas eve. Don't ever try to contact a Swede when that's runnning!
