But what about if you think "I need to eat something or I will die"?From my recent observations I have found that desires start with this thought "I". This thought that I am the body allows all other thoughts and desires and attachments to arise. By just eliminating that one thought, all others will disappear.
What about social interaction? People say it is a need now. That is not a desire, that is a need. There are only a few needs. They main ones are: food/water, clothing according to environment, shelter, and medicine. Those are needs not desires.
Thanks for correcting me. So what would you say is luxury food?Today we have gotten many things mixed up with the terms desire and need. They are almost used to substitue each other. They are not synonyms. If you cant live without it, its a need.

I get where you are coming from. You don't really get told this stuff when you look up the dharmic religions, they all say how you should not get attached and stuff like that, but they never say how you are and what attatchment really is.Its not about the type of food, but the person. If you are picky about what you eat, will only eat things because they taste good or things like that, then you arnt doing it for a need. But because you asked, A food of luxery is one that fills the taste buds with joy and makes you want to have more. Its not pleasing to only one sense, but all. Its a joy to look at, to smell, and to feel in your mouth. You want it more than other foods and you are willing to pay more for it. That is a luxurious type of food. The sage will not pass over such foods, but will look at it differently. He will not taste, see, or feel the luxery of the food. Instead he will see it as it is, food.
You make it sound as though the sage takes no pleasure in life. Its not about the type of food, but the person. I will add here that you needn't worry about desire beginning and ending. Worrying about it means you've already missed the mark. When you act, just act, don't think about acting. What the self does is actually the whole which is called Brahman acting, but the self thinks it is acting. Act as you desire, but don't attach constructs to it- Maybe this is just me leaning towards Tantra lately.
Computer is out then, so after I remove it, I just meditate?Remove all distraction and the truth will reveal itself free from any scripture or dogma.

how do you meditate like that then? Not meditation in the conventional sense though. Not just sitting and repeating a mantra, or sitting and cultivating come trait, quality, or feeling. But sitting and turning ones mind inward and removing all distractions until all thats left is the Bliss of Being. Then one must put all attention on that. That is real meditaiton
how do you meditate like that then?
Is there a way I can build up to that? Since I am new to meditation.
