When gutter balls are better than strikes!

Winning feels better than losing, no doubt!

But losing I think is often better for our souls, if you believe in souls, and if you don't believe in souls, you probably still can appreciate a proud person becoming more humble.

I am currently bowling with three other people, and won the first game, feeling confident to win the second as well.

The performance during the second game was like 115, which isn't bad for me, but didn't win, and had some frustrating gutter balls.

The first game was free of gutter balls. Gutter balls were better than strikes or spares, because they taught lessons in patience, and mortification of pride.

mor·ti·fi·ca·tion
/ˌmôrdəfəˈkāSH(ə)n/noun

  1. great embarrassment and shame.
"they mistook my mortification for an admission of guilt"

  2. the action of subduing one's bodily desires.
"mortification of the flesh has a long tradition in some religions. " I find pride doesn't serve myself or a lot of people well. Losing the game was better than the time I won. That doesn't mean you aim for the gutter though. :p ;)

I love gutter balls! They make a unique sound.

I find the best way to go about bowling is do your best, but find joy in whatever throw you get. Gutter balls are great. Strikes are great. Sometimes the weird pattern in which some pins stand and some fall is great.

The french fries from the food stand at our bowling alley is great, too.

I kinda miss bowling.

The game I lost, I learned from. The game won felt good, but didn't teach me anything, or help my tolerance to frustration go up, help me grow more patient, humble, and meditate on valuable things like: you can be more of a winner through failure. ;)

That's not the issue George. Dont laugh but there's this irrational fear imma roll all the way down the lane and get squished by the pin collector thing. I have no clue where that fear came from. Like i said it's irrational.

Oh yes! You did tell me that once!

We all have an irrational fear somewhere.

In the sense that failure can help you be more humble, patient, empathetic, + grow in virtue, regardless of what you failed at.

Chances are you'll get a strike thought :)

I hate gutter balls, but I used to bowl in leagues so I have high standards for myself. And rolling a gutter means not watching the ball do it's curve and weird weighted spin thing all the way down, and no seeing the pins explode out.
But, with. A gutter, the lane will never flip you the bird (5th/middle pin being the only one still up) lol.

Well, those lanes are slick. You cross the black line and you probably won't slide all the way down the lane, but your rear may crudely say "hello" to the floor a few feet away from the line so it's not entirely irrational.

I remember the shock of stepping on a lane and quickly finding myself on my hindquarters...
