When Will Anti-Atheism Be Viewed as Bigotry?

All kinds of anti tend to slip into bigotry quite easily. Anti-atheism, anti-islam, anti-christianity, anti-paganism, anti-theism...

Sha'irullah

I will para-phrase my step mother . . .
"Atheism is an absurd belief. Why do they think that god does not exist when they don't have proof of it. This is why atheists are always worshiping Muhammad and believing he is a replacement for god when he is just a man. Christians do not blow themselves up in the name of Jesus like atheists blow themselves up in the name of Muhammad.

. . . how on earth can they worship a man instead of Jesus"

In short many fools do not even know what atheism even is. Here I am knowing a nutcase who conflates atheism and Islam as the same thing. She literally saw Sam Harris in the news and asked me why he doesn't have a beard like other Muslims.
Just think about it . . . Sam Harris, a Muslim! Osama bin Laden, an atheist!

I have seen lo and many a creationist claim that
they are called "stupid",but, I have never seen
it actually happen.

Nor can any of them produce an example. Was that
a deluded statement on your part? I think it was.

Now, as for deluded-well, let us see what the word means.

: deceived by false beliefs
: having or characterized by delusional ideas
-deluded thinking

yep, that all fits, in varying degrees.

Among the serious ones, we count one who claims
the excess water from Noahs thing was wafted
to Neptune, where it shines to this day as a warning
beacon against incoming rogue angels.

Deluded?

Now, if you or any of your fundy friends can actually
demonstrate delusion, self deception, delusional
thinking on the part of an atheist here, by all means
do so!

Otherwise, sure,go ahead and say "delusional"
if it suits you. Without a reason, though, it would be
nothing but low name calling that says only
something about you.

Give it a try! If atheists are deluded, show us where
we are deceived by false beliefs.

Any time will be fine. How about now?

I think I understand. I'm not stupid in your eyes, merely delusional.

Do you frequently ask delusional people to deconstruct your belief systems for you? Do you find this practice productive somehow?

If you are trying to be sarcastic or otherwise clever,
you are going to have to try harder, the above is
just jabbering.

Well written article on anti-atheism as "acceptable" bigotry.

Comments?

Actually, I am not sure that being despised by people who seriously believe in talking serpents, nohas, 6000 years old earth, airborne prophets, etc, is a bad thing, per se. Unless you live in a place where the vast majority believe in that stuff, obviously.

Maybe just factual.
A delusion is a persistent belief held without compelling evidence and despite countervailing evidence. If you stubbornly hold a conviction without empirical evidence and despite evidence to the contrary, aren't you delusional, by definition?

Nah. Jabbering.

But sure, we see a lot of people with delusional thoughts
here, he is far from the worst case.

Audie, be accountable. You dared me to explain the problems in your worldview--just after calling me delusional.

Do you frequently ask delusional people to deconstruct your belief systems for you? Do you find this practice productive?

I did nothing of the sort. You are merely giving
redundant examples of your delisions.

As for your "question", that was addressed.
Asking again is jabber x 2, giving what,
Jabberwocky, perhaps.

Let's review:

Atheists have called people on this forum every kind of ad hom and stupid--before you disagree, you have accused me of jabbering even on this most recent ad hom post.

You disagreed stridently, saying atheists don't call Christians stupid but deluded, then dared me to show you where you are wrong.

So, do you often ask delusional people to deconstruct your worldview? Or is this limited solely to "being real" on the Internet?

Lets review;

Deluded does not mean stupid. Not
does the word "jabber".

Nobody has called you stupid, though of course
you can take any word you like, and
rearrange the letters, drop others and add some,
so that it says "stupid".

The question you keep asking is nonsensical.
Fits the definition of jabber.

As for "ad hom" I see a lot of people claiming
it, thereby demonstrating that they do not
understand the term.

"Jabber" and "delusional" do not mean
stupid; you are completely misusing
the words "ad hom" and "strident"
neither of which apply.

Is this simple ignorance, you just dont care,
or what?

delusion-

an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument,

You might want to go back through your recent posts.

You never called me stupid, indeed, you wrote you never call Christians stupid, merely delusional. I pointed to the folly of your challenging me to redress your views when I'm delusional. You tacitly admitted I'm of sound mind with your challenges and all your posts, including this last one. Why tell me the difference between "jabber" and other words if I'm delusional?

Do you find it helpful to teach vocabulary words to define terms when debating delusional people?

I doubt you can be taught much.

However, you might attempt to understand that
"delusional" is not an absolute, but comes in degrees.

For example-
I dealt with a lady one time who was filing a housing
discrimination suit.

She believed that she was being gassed by her
landlord, to drive her out.

Kept smelling "bursts" of odor. Saw someone
tying his shoe on the sidewalk, thought it
was a signal to give her another burst.

But, she was more or less functioning
independently. She did not go to the shoe
store to file her complaint, or attack
fire hydrants. Not like totally delusional.

Some of your ideas are rather delusional.
But there are others here with much
worse problems. Be glad' it could be worse.

Why would clarifying terms in a debate not be helpful? A delusional person isn't necessarily stupid.
Perhaps a particular disagreement hinges on different interpretations of some particular term.

I think it's a waste of time to debate the delusional. When I witness outside the forums, I go to open-minded persons, not asylums.

Ah so, you think all people who are
delusional are in "asylums"? I see them
on the street, talking to themselves.

And many many more who are more or less
asymptomatic.

You might have to go to a prosperity gospel
meetin' to hear someone say:

"Money!! Cometh unto me NOW!"

But they do it, in their thousands.

The rest of the time, you might not even suspect
that they in their own degree, are in fact
delusional.

Perhaps you are unaware of what the word
"delusional" actually means.

"Deluded" about the word, you might say. :D
