I swim in the water. I can swim and like to do so. Problem is I hate swimsuits and feel uncomfy swimming

I think the last time i went to a beach i was still a child. And yes, as i swam in the sea, I got stung by a Portuguese Man of war.

Although i have lived on the coast i never venture onto the beach anymore

I mostly swim at lake and river beaches. But no, I don't use a lifesaver, though I have flowed downstream laying on one a few times.

Ouch! How did that go?

Painful, left side of my face swelled like a angry football. Spoiled the holiday.

I have a little bit, but I got used to water in ponds and pools. Swimming takes energy, but most people can do it for a short time. The only danger at a beach is that if you are out of shape and aren't used to swimming then you should keep sand under your feet, but its fine to play in the waves. If you cannot swim then you should not let the waves get much higher than your waist or chest. You can still body board, too. Go with friends, and you can keep an eye out for one another. Also only go to beaches that have a life guard on duty. Then if one of you somehow gets too tired and is having trouble the lifeguard can bring them a float.

Lifeguards must be certified. They have to demonstrate good swimming technique, and they must be able to swim a long distance. They also learn how to resuscitate drowned people.

Have been a strong swimmer since I was very small. Used to swim in the Ottawa River, which is quite large and has some "interesting" currents. Also, it's bloody brrrrr...COLD...brrrrr!

As a kid, if there was water somewhere, I was in it. Like a Labrador retriever.
Likewise, a strong swimmer since early childhood. But I prefer to swim in the ocean. One of my favorite things in the world to do is body-surf on large waves. ;) If your not being thrown head-over-heels and smashed up, then the waves are too small.:D

PS - by coincidence, this photo is from Keiki Beach on the north shore of Oahu. I was there once, 3 years ago, and did exactly this. FUN!!! :) Lost my mask too. Whoops.;):D

I love the beach but don't swim much. I wade mostly. I used to go in over my head, but I didn't realize where I used to swim was near a channel where sharks were.
