Where and How Would You Advertise RF?

If you were to advertise RF in order to attract more people of all religious and irreligious backgrounds to this forum, where and how would you advertise it?

This isn't a staff-related thread; I'm just interested to read members' ideas for this.

Please avoid mentioning competing forums by name. Also please keep your input serious, because I'm keenly awaiting the answers here.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think I would advertise. Maybe work on search engine optimization? People who are interested will find RF using Duck-Duck-Go, Bing or Google.

Well, I tell all my friends and family that I post on here. And @dannerz and @Hayley Bartlett decided to join or post here because of how often I mentioned it. I don't really advertise but I tell other people what I'm doing. My family knows I post here, and my therapist does too. I don't even use any other forums to speak of. Once in awhile I'll use Discord but since conversation in Discord is more directed I don't talk to people on Discord about RF, unless I am in the RF Discord server.

How would you work on search engine optimization, given that RF already shows up as one of the top search results for phrases such as "religious forums" and "religious debates"?

I guess there is not much room to optimize than. I tried "forum discussion debate religion" and found RF on place 3 with Duck-Duck-Go. Already pretty good.

  • Active social media accounts for the site might attract some attention.
  • A podcast and/or YouTube channel.
  • A Kickstarter campaign to fund @JustGeorge'suggestion (then the campaign and the site's name will appear on the Kickstarter site).
  • Links to the site on other websites.

I would advertise it to college students, maybe on Tik Tok

I wouldn't. People looking to discuss religion on-line encounter this site almost immediately. Very few folks like to discuss religion on line, it seems.

I think a lot of people just use social media instead, which I find to be a horrible venue for any serious discussion.

In terms of raw numbers, there are clearly a lot of people who like using a religious debate forum, but as a percentage of internet users, that indeed seems to be a highly niche preference.

Maybe religious focused pod casts.
At least you'd be targeting the right audience.

Find some new key words and optimise for them too.

Edit. Simply SEO.
There are free online keyword tools, something of a cheat but do a keyword search for rfs main competitors. Choose the best scoring keywords. For main forum pages choose 4 or 5 most relevant keywords for that page from the list, optimise the pages for those keywords.

Register the site with google analytics (and possibly some of the other free Google tools). They will report what needs to be done to improve a page performance.

Maybe add some religious titles to a motto that would come up?

Example : The place for....(add religious/irreligious labels here...)

I think doing youtube podcasts would work. Can any of you hold a good unwritten conversation? All you'd need is someone who could do that, and then you contact scholars etc. Or even just talk to people here, if they'd want that.

I've never used social media, but I'm ancient and stuck in backwards technology ... by choice.
