Can you explain how the text indicates that (a) it is the words of Jesus or (b) that what is written is literally true (rather than allegorically true).

Do you know how you can tell a story to several people over time, and the initial story changes dramatically because some people either forget what was said, so they guess and make up something to fill in the blanks, or they add their own narratives to embellish the story? I think that is the reason why the stories of Jesus spread from region to region and that some of these stories about him were embellished to make him appear to be godlike or even God himself. Based on all of the information I've read, I come to believe that if Jesus even existed, then he was just an ordinary man and a very popular, zealous religious teacher of his time. I think that some of the stories about him were greatly embellished to make him appear to be more than he was, and that other stories about him were copied and adapted from Greek mythology and a few other ancient pagan religions to give him godlike qualities (such as a divine birth, miraculously healing the sick, performing supernatural miracles, walking on water, raising the dead, and being resurrected from the dead).

Only if I am wrong. Otherwise it is the truth with grace for the opposition.

You and every other Christian who believes their particular brand of Christianity and personal interpretation of the Bible is correct. The problem with that is the fact that Christians are vastly divided into different sects that cling to their own preferred versions of Christianity and interpretations of the Bible.

Yes... that is a problem.

If the differences are foundational to the belief. Otherwise different Christian groups can be considered as flavors of ice cream. At the core we can be the same but look very different.
