Where do you meet wise people?

Knowing where to meet wise people in real life can be very difficult.

Having ten months sobriety, and living the immature lifestyle of a mentally ill addict, from age 12 to 34, isn't something easy to recover from, and I've got ten months sobriety, and need serious help growing up.

But people, including Doctors and licensed mental health professionals usually seem very disappointing.

Most people don't strike me as being wise and mature, or some one to turn to for help growing up, being more mature, being stronger, wiser, having more self-control, self-respect etc

I know too many drug addicts where my current apartment is, that I'm seeking a new place on that basis alone, just to escape from using buddies and dealers.

I like the location of my apartment, but sacrificing that to escape the druggies that keep stopping by, is likely worthwhile.

I meet drug addicts constantly, and have to wonder, is that what I act like?
. I want nothing to do with such poison of mind, body, and soul anymore!

I have met wise people at AA and NA, but sometimes that can be far from the case! It's unbelievable sometimes how much worse I have felt after certain meetings, but some times some one very wise offers something great and helpful.

People, myself included, are just disappointing to me. It's why I turn so much to something supernatural, because at times it felt at least, with what seemed like confirmation signs, that I was having an experience with an entity greater than myself, and those moments mean the world to me, but people are as a general rule just disappointing imho, myself included. :(

Hence , the need for someone, something greater!

Sometimes someone who is not otherwise wise can say something of great wisdom. To me the secret is to be open. I have trouble doing this but I recognize the value of learning from even the darkest people:

When I see beings of an evil disposition
Oppressed by heavy misdeeds and suffering,
May I, as if having discovered a jeweled treasure,
Cherish them as extremely precious
For they are rare to find!

It is my opinion that no, you are not like the people who are doing personal self-medication to escape reality. I think that I can say for most of us here that we are glad that you care about escaping the move to personal destruction. The way you communicate is NOT for nothing. I appreciate your being here. You are interesting and smart. Do not give up!

Thank you. :)

But do i strike you as being mature and having sound mind? I am curious to know your opinion, even though you don't know enough about me to make such a call, with what you do know, perhaps?...

Mature? I looked it up because it can mean more or less than I imagine. "Fully developed, full-grown". I think that metally, you are beyond your age. Maybe, very well beyond. If your picture is an indication, you have not reached full physical maturity yet. Please, keep in mind that the mind is physical and also mental, and spiritual.

There's more about my opinion of growing up, but later, maybe.

According to the Bible, Jesus said something like "be like a child, to enter God's Kingdom", not childish but open, full of wonder about God and His Creation

My Master said something like "IF you live 1 second fully God conscious, your life's Goal has been achieved".

Many so called mature people never get there, so maybe mature has been a bit overrated or in this context underrated.

It all depends what your goal in life is. I can be a mess from worldly POV, but if I stay focused on God and dharmic living (do unto others....idea) then I don't worry, esp. knowing that all humans die, which implies they are not "on top of the world anymore"

About "sound mind". Let's examine the minds of people who achieved a lot in the world...Biden,Trump, Hitler, Putin, Kimmy etc.

I would not say all of those have a sound mind, though they do make a lot of sound. Still they achieved a lot from worldly POV, so "sound mind" does not say much to me

"sound heart" tells me more

@Spiderman

I've met several wise people on forums (and some total idiots) RF is no exception. I guess it depends what you want to listen to/read.

Have you tried the aa forums or similar? I also understand Reddit has quite va community of recovering addicts. There must be some wisdom buried in them.

I consider you to be wise in several aspects, you have certainly learned a good lesson in life and are wise enough to look for ways to help prevent you from reverting.
