Where does it say you are forbidden to date people outside your race?

I've had friends say they only date within their race because the Bible says so. I know it says to avoid dating someone from a different religion, but a different race? Can anyone explain if such a rule exists in the old or new testament or in any Christian denomination?

It doesn't. They are conflating nationality/culture/religion with race. The Bible explained that the reason that Israelites were not allowed to marry people from neighboring countries was because they had religious and cultural practices which were at odds with Biblical commandments. It says nothing about the color of their skin having anything to do with it.

The Israelites were commanded not to marry from certain nations that God had condemned to destruction. (Deuteronomy 7:3,4) Christians can marry someone from any nation or race. Compare Acts 10:34,35.

God is no respecter of persons. However for practical reasons I probably wouldn't date anyone who wasn't at least nominally Catholic.

The Bible says no such thing. I take much offense at the notion that God or the Bible is racist since I am mixed race.

I also don't take most of the Old Testament as literal history, but much of it is tribal stories.

I echo dear Frank's sentiments, as another mixed-race individual. There is no room whatsoever for racism within the Christian religion.

Just for information sake, the same type of people get into Heathen circles and say similar things about race mixing and such...what does that tell us about how much it is really based on the beliefs/traditions vs jerks simply looking for bigotry reinforcement?
