Where's Amie????

Original Freak

I am the ORIGINAL Freak
These were my word yesterday that struck fear and panic in me like never before.

I came home from work, Babysitter there because my wife's at work and the house is a state. The babysitter isn't to blame for this, she wasn't there to clean the house, and she was only there for 2 hours (no one is to blame, kids can make a big mess in 2 hours). So I have to start supper and after the BB sitter leaves I go out on my back deck and start the BBQ (1 minute MAX). I come in get things ready to make supper. After a couple of minutes I realise I can only see 3 of my four kids (all in the house). So I ask my older two Where's Amie? No one knows. I start searching the house, she's 2 1/2 and Tiny. She also knows how to hide really well, and the twins have been known to 'escape' out the front. I live in a very child friendly area on a short dead end street where the only traffic is those who live there. So I run around the floor can't find her anywhere. I check the basement, and up 2 flights of stairs, still nada. I look in our backyard, nope, and then out the front...still nothing. Again I check the house, telling my older two to look as well. I grab my other twin and go out the front door. I turn to my right and walk out looking. Eventually I turn around and go the other way. There's a lady (and a car parked on the side of the road) with my little girl, who's on her Tricycle, asking if she's my daughter. She went off the Dead end street and was biking on other road. Not a main street but busier non the less. Total time, 10-15 minutes max. Total time taken off my life in panic...20 years.

I am relieved you found her Freak. Also, that a good person is the one that saw her.

I am so glad this ended on a happy note, give Amie big hugs! I think every parent has, or will go through this same ordeal, or something similar to it. It sure has for me......

I had my two boys with me grocery shopping (which I avoid doing at all costs, for obvious reasons that do not need explaining) and my oldest wandered off. At first I wasn't too concerned, but as the seconds passed, which felt like minutes, I began to panic. I finally went to a stock boy to ask if he had seen my son. They did not play around with this at all, he got on the phone and requested an "ADAM ALERT". All doors locked so that no one can get in or out, all customer's in the store are asked to stay where they are, and all employees moved as fast as they could, looking for my little boy. At this point my heart began to sink and the tears welled up in my eyes. While holding onto my six year old for dear life, I began to think the worst. (OMG, I'm tearing up just writing this)LOL. When they finally found him I just broke down and cried. Then I yelled at my son and explained what he had done. To which he replied "Oh Mom, I was just checking out the squirt guns." and to his brother, "Hey Ryan want to come with me and I'll show you all the great stuff they have?" Oh dear, what's a parent to do??????

At one time my son took off and hid in a rack of House coats (he was 4). They go all the way to the floor so we couldn't see him. We were just getting to the point of Panic when we found him. There is to this day a whole lot of trouble, and grounding if anyone hides in a store again.

it's funny when you look back at it. I remember the day (I was at work) When Marie was cleaning; the bell rang, and at the door was a neighbour who had found Andy (aged 4 1/2) walking up to the main road.........

Funny when you look back, but not when it's happening...that's a scary experience. Glad everything was ok :)

I don't remember this, but when I was really little I went missing for a couple hours. And was found like a couple miles down the road (which is in the country, like the boonies) by the garbage man. And he brought me back home. My parents tell me they were so scared, but I was very excited with being able to ride in the garbage truck. :D

When we first moved in to where we are now, we had two dogs, a kelpie and a poodle. They took it into their heads after we'd been here for about 18 months to start digging along the fence in the back yard. We have a park right next door to us, so they'd get out and come around to the front of the house to be let in.
One day our son was out in the back yard playing with the dogs. I was doing the washing, so I was in and out hanging things on the line. Something rattled the screen door at the front, so I went to see what it was, and there was the kelpie at the door asking to be let in. I let him in and took him out to the back yard...no son. We were in a panic. My mother in law immediately jumped in her car to take a photo of him to the local police station, neighbourhood kids started looking for him...there were people laying cable's for pay tv in the next street, they jumped in their vans and started searching as well.
Then the police pulled up at the house next door (on the other side of the park) and they guy there comes out carrying him. Apparently he'd crawled through the hole the dog dug and was in the park by himself when the guy next door had happened to come outside. He knew who the dog belonged to, but the dog was acting as if he didn't know our son, so he assumed they weren't a couple. When he asked our son what his name was, he said,'Thomas'. He was fixated with Thomas The Tank Engine at that stage; his name is actually Brandon, which may also have been a giveaway to where he belonged had he not claimed to be a small blue train.
He managed to nick out the front door one other time...we heard the door shut, so we got him before he got too far. Just as well for him, seeing he was wearing nothing but a pair of his fathers snow boots and one goretex glove.

Once when I was little, my grandmother told me she'd play hide and seek with me. But, when I hid, she never came to look for me. I eventually fell asleep. No one could find me for hours, and they had the police everywhere, searching the town and forest. Finally, my aunt found me asleep in a linen closet. :p

It can be scary to fear for someone you love. I know I nearly had a heart attack when Darwin escaped out the window, and got lost.
