It depends. The other day I used a Cosmic Crisp Apple a really good batch of apple pancakes. Banana pancakes can be good to, but that particular dish works better with a very crisp apple. I have a feeling that figs would not work. But who knows? I could be wrong. Blueberries work great in pancakes, so maybe I could give figs a shot. How many fig newtons would it take, @ChristineM ?

Depends on where you live.

If you live in a place where bananas can grow, bananas. If you live in a place where apples can grow, apples. Not living in the tropics, for me it is clearly apples. Less food milage, less bad impact on the environment. Plus we have a fantastic local orchard that grows apples far better than the crap you buy in stores anyway.

What has happened to your taste buds?

Fresh figs, not fig biscuits (we have "fig biscuits" by various manufacturers in Europe, none are called newton)

I've never tried fig pancakes so looked it up, there are several tasty sounding recipes.

Fresh figs are a thing I've only discovered while here in france. Wonderful. Several people have fig trees, a couple have fig orchard, we are cultivating 2 different verities in our small courtyard and veranda. Had our first home grown figs last year. Can't beat them.

Almost as bad as Kars for Kids. The one song that should be banned by the Geneva Convention.
I have soo many kids songs that get stuck in my head. The worse is baby shark. They have multiple versions of it now including one where instead of sharks it's cars. Kids love it.

Sadly that is the only source of figs that I know of here. They are rather awful cookies, just a sweet figgy jam with a totally nondescript cookie wrapping it up. If you ate those it might be a while before you could face a proper fig again. Hmm, how to describe them. Imagine a hippo trying to do ballet and you are on the right track.

I like both, and would eat more apples if I had better teeth, but tend to eat more bananas now. Here is some nice information - if you didn't already know - as to bananas setting off radiation alarms.

Of the two, I prefer bananas, but when it comes to my favorite fruit nothing beats a champaign mango!

My favorite is, believe it or not, apple-bananas from Hawaii. They don't export them to the US, sadly. But they are amazing! You have to let them ripen way way more than expected.

When I had them the first time, a street vendor approached with what appeared to be a bunch of completely brown over-ripe bananas, and tried to sell them to me. I looked at him funny, and he said to me in a local surfery accent, "Bro. Don't judge it like that." Then took one of the bananas off the bunch and handed to me. It was firm, and perfect in everyway. Started out tasting like a banana, but within a few chews it became very quickly tart like a granny-smith apple. It's a very unique special experience.

So my favorite is apple-banana. Put those two together.

Bananas are softer and easier to eat than apples, although apple pie and apple juice are pretty good.

You can slip on banana peels, but I've never heard of anyone slipping on an apple peel.

Exactly. Mango is a top tier fruit, ‘objectively’ speaking. Unlike the other two, mango is supernaturally good. I worship it.

It’s kind of like comparing apples to oranges but I think a fundamentalist would choose the banana since it was created perfectly ergonomically for our opposable thumbs. But as a fruit mystic I’m sticking to my mangos and other top tier fruit like stone fruit, cherries (is that a stone fruit or pit fruit?), pears and right up there with mangos - passionfruit.

I love both but I do buy more bananas. Sliced apple just isn't the same on cereal.

It's not a matter of better or worse. Taste, recipe, ripeness and other factors make one "better" sometimes and the other better other times.

My #1 in any event is ripe blueberries in season.

I prefer bananas, but there isn't anything objective about that. I'm sure many people prefer apples with just as much (and as little) justification.

I love apple juice though. (Does banana juice even exist?)
