When you think, talk, read, hear sermons about, which Jesus comes into your mind? The baby Jesus or the adult Jesus? Does it depend on the season of the year? Why do you think of that particular image of Jesus? Does your particular faith refer to Jesus in the adult sense or infant sense more often?

#1: Baby Jesus

The baby Jesus or the adult Jesus?
Whenever I think of Jesus I think of the adult.
The only time baby Jesus comes to mind is during Christmas with the Nativity scenes.

Does it depend on the season of the year?
Christmas time brings to mind baby Jesus.

Why do you think of that particular image of Jesus?
It's the one I'm used to seeing the most (in movies, books, crucifixes, etc). The only time I've seen baby Jesus is during Christmas time and even when I was reading the Gospels, I paid more attention of Jesus as an adult and what he had to say.

Does your particular faith refer to Jesus in the adult sense or infant sense more often?
I'm not Christian and I'm not affiliated with any faith that requires me to view Jesus a certian way. I have my own views and opinions on the matter though.

That's actually what brought it up. About a week ago I watched it with my husband and I finally decided to get around to making it.

Note: Mike, that's a great poll! Thank you.

I'd be seriously surprised if any Orthodox Christian said anything other than adult. We have icons of Him as an adult on every iconostasis in every Church and probably in just about every home. Of course, He is also to be seen in almost every icon of the Theotokos, which is just as common, but if you ever see an icon showing the infant Christ you'll se that He doesn't really look like a baby - the proportions are wrong, with Him looking more like a little man. That's actually deliberate, the icon depicting spiritual truth rather than physical reality and hence being symbolic. I've spoken to an iconographer about this before and, if I remember corectly, it's to do with Christ having pre-existed the Incarnation and hence being more than just a baby (though I may be misremembering).

I always think of Jesus as an adult. I never think of historical figures as babies. Like, what if I always thought of Napoleon or Ceaser as babies? That would just be weird.

I think of Jesus as he is now, an adult. He had to learn and grow and develop spiritually to be able to be what he is now. I only think of him as a baby during Christmas and only because that is how Christ came to earth.

Ricky Bobby is the first and only person I have ever heard pray to "baby Jesus" (by the way I only live about an hour away from Talledega).

Like Lux et Umbra, I only think of him as a baby during Christmas. I think of that particular image because we don't have very many stories about baby Jesus, just adult Jesus. :D
