Who am I kidding?

Religion is clearly not for me. I keep questioning them, finding holes, problems, contradictions.

So why do I keep seeking? What am I really looking for?

It's driving me nuts!

Perhaps on some level you are fascinated with how often people take kooky ideas seriously in the name of religion?

Someone once said that religion is belief in the mystery we can never understand, science the investigation of the mystery we can never understand, and art the interpretation of the mystery we can never understand. I think maybe you're aware of and interested in that mystery.

"Seeking" implies a goal.
If that goal is a rational faith, it looks unattainable.
Is there a word for seeking sans goal?
If I knew of one, I'd post it here.

What are you seeking? Meaning? Purpose? Find your passion, and you will find both. *hug*

There are many different reasons to seek a religion, and even more for having an interest on them.

Very few are really beyond any living person, IMO.

Maybe you value the quality of an environment more than you do belief and tradition? Just a guess. There are many possibilities.

A fulfilling belief system rather than necessarily one that stands up to the rigorous (and sometimes counter-productive) search for truth where you can think and feel spontaneously? You're probably not looking for a religion to believe in but a way to believe in yourself.

Same thing as wondering what's over the next hill.

For me the thing I discovered I was seeking was companionship and a sense of belonging to a group, as well as routein human interaction that was deeper than coworkers.
So I joined a support group for health and fitness and a couple clubs (including a gaming group). Best thing I ever did.

((Treks)) I’ve gone through this too, for roughly a year. I left Christianity about 4 years ago, and identified as an atheist eventually thereafter. But, last year, I was missing something…dealing with my grandma becoming ill, then dying caused me to start wanting to escape into religion, again. At one time, it (religion) brought me great comfort, even if it was all in my mind. I think what you are seeking, is to best understand yourself. To fully embrace self, and your own life, without the trappings of faith telling you who you are. It can be comforting to be ‘a part of’ something greater than ourselves and religion often provides that outlet.

True peace and happiness comes from realizing that within us, is everything we need. It’s not outside of us. Hope this helps a bit. :sunflower:

Validation, most likely. Others who share your confusion, or can point you in the directions of further understanding on points you struggle with.

As bad as it probably is, I, personally, am also looking for more to "debunk", more to find fault with - more ammunition with which to debate and argue. That really goes hand-in-hand with validation though. Attempting to secure with myself my choice - or rather, looking for justifications in my lack of ability to believe.

If it's not against the rules to quote me own post.....

"Exploring" seems a good word.
