Who Comes by Far

The horizon from the highest hill is the useless
Edge Of The World when you don't travel.

You meet people who come by far,
So they must be heroes; so I believe you're a Rider
Passing to the Sun's Door...though you tell me,
You once knew so cold a land the clouds froze
And fell from the sky, and the People
Wore heavy skins.

Still, I look at your hands
Warm and dark with the candle,
And can barely imagine
What I'd think of their color by Dragon's Fire,
Leave alone the morning sun.

Then you turn in our shadows as if to say,
You've begun your liking of me,
So tonight you'll stay.

I'll go tomorrow to find a deer
With stolen flowers in its teeth
To gift to you a thing beautiful,
You who come by far.

This poem is quite romantic, especially the later parts of the poem. It's like a sort of love letter. The beginning has a dark blue feel to it, and then the clouds part and i imagine a peaceful warmth in the 2nd half of the poem.

"I'll go tomorrow to find a deer
With stolen flowers in its teeth
To gift to you a thing beautiful,
You who come by far."

And i love the amazing imagery you create in the frozen land!

"You once knew so cold a land the clouds froze
And fell from the sky, and the People
Wore heavy skins."

It makes me imagine a dystopian world that excludes fun and expression of the self.

Well, darling @Terese, the poem was inspired by a woman I knew. A woman who was traveling around the US in a van. I met her one summer's day at a coffee shop I frequented. She was sitting outside the shop selling homemade jewelry for food and gas money, so naturally I had to take her to dinner that evening and hear the story of her travels.
