Who do we really worship? (In religion)

A gentleman brought in a topic with the same heading (paraphrased). Since i believe this is one of the most pertinent questions one could ask in the field of religion and theology, i though i will also ask this question in a light we all must understand.

Who do we really worship? Let's say I am a Muslim, do i worship God? Or do i worship the Mullahs and Imams? Or do we worship our parents? Do we worship our pier?

As a Christian do we worship God? Do we worship the church? Do we worship our leaders, our parents, or our teachers?

In Hinduism do we worship our god? Do we worship a Shri?

In all religions around the world, do we worship whoever our deity is or do we worship someone else really?

Do really worship God or do we worship an institution?

Worship God
Love the church
Respect and listen to our leaders, parents, and teachers

So yes, as a Christian I worship God but not my church or my leaders/parents/teachers

In my view, religion done right is all about identifying that which you deeply value and recognizing those things are your gods. The only common denominator for what gods are in cultures worldwide is that they are aspects that the beholder deems worthy of worship (aka, something deeply valued). If your gods do not match up with what you deeply value, then you have a lot of work to do in finding your true gods.

As a atheist, money of course. :D

Well actually I suppose it is friendship and family mostly.

Very interesting question, that's very good food for thought.

In being on the Luciferian path, my goal is the apotheosis of the self. To not only know and love myself as I truly am, but to become the best version of myself I can be. So in a sense my admiration of Lucifer has led me to exalt myself, and the things I do to honor him often involve self empowerment and improvement. My spirituality is centered around myself.

Do we really worship God or do we worship a text?

We worship people, our ego, our money, our property, our desires.

I also think this shows our divide in what we consider worship is.

Lets take the Qur'an. It says not to worship money. Money is not an ilah.

But people will worship God, give some alms, pray a few times and ask God to give him money. Some do this. Some take a few coins, tie it on a tree that they consider divine and pray for a million bucks. Some people roll around a shrine of a God, hurting their hip bones, elbows and ankles asking for power and money from God. The more hurt you are, the more your penance is accepted by God.

So this is the divide in what "worship" is. Now you are asking if we worship a text. Of course we do. We take text as THE GOD and forget THE GOD who we claim revealed that same text. Many do. Even atheists worship something. Money, women, power, drugs, etc etc.

You have got a different idea of the word worship. I have a different one.
