Who has more in common?

Who has more in common?

  • A gay religious person and a gay non-religious person.

  • A gay religious person and a straight religious person.

  • A gay non-religious person and a straight non-religious person.

  • There is no way to answer such a silly question.

Does one aspect of our identity override all other aspects?

Nope. A gay atheist might have more in common with a straight evangelical nutcase than he does with other gay atheists.

That's not usually how it works. But the biggest gun nut and staunch 2nd amendment advocate I've ever known was a gay atheist. And that's saying something, because I grew up in rural Appalachia and have known several dozen religious gun nuts.

"Religious" is way too heterogenous of a category to meaningfully answer the question. It's about the most heterogenous category of human culture one can name.

But if we constructed a Venn diagram for the world's religions there would be a few almost universal overlapping ideas..

I think the more a person sees themselves as this or that, the less they will see themselves in others, and others in themselves. Let's just all be people, and we'll all have plenty to share in common.
