Who is leaving Twitter?

Heh. I tried Bluesky the other day. I browsed it first, to find that there were well known people on it, like Jack Smith. Have you ever watched a TV discussion, and just itched to join in? This I thought is my chance to actually talk to some of these people and give them the benefit of my superior opinions. So I signed up. First thing, I decided to do a test post (or is it still tweet?) and found a thread about video games. I typed in a lengthy response, then find I couldn't post it. Apparently there is a limit of 300 characters. Anyone familiar with my posting style will understand that I can't express the simplest idea in only 300 characters. I deleted my membership.

While relating this to a friend, he reminded me that Twitter was always limited in the size of the tweets. I never used Twitter, but I had heard that.

Oh well. Their loss I guess. :(

I've never used any of these sites - given I am not a fan of being 'invited' to look at all sorts of nonsense that might just waste my time. Instead I waste my time by choosing what I might prefer to see and where to do so.

The nearest I get is a quick scroll through anything on my limited iPhone to see if I then might look at such on my laptop. Otherwise it is a lap of the usual sites I trust as to obtaining new and/or relevant information as to new or interesting discoveries and such.

It has been years since I last posted in Twitter, and it is very rare indeed for me to read it at all.

I have started modest accounts on BlueSky and Threads, because there is no way I am going to lend any overlife to Twitter under Musk (and Trump).

I made a Bluesky account, spent two hours looking at pictures of cats and reading funny posts and remembered why I deleted twitter in the first place.

There are good uses for social media but infinte scroll through algorithmically curated feeds designed to steal as much of your attention as possible is not it.

I wrote on Twitter that I thought it was crap

It suspended my account because of that

Thanks Elon!

I don't care though because it is indeed crap

Note that Threads is blocked by a vast array of other federated instances, so we can't see your posts there. The reason is that ActivityPub (or "Mastodon", as some people recently started to call it because of its most active implementation) is quite anti-monopolistic, and many instance owners do not wish any Zuckerberg stuff to appear on their servers.

I don't know that this is a problem.
