Who is the male child in Revelation 12:5?

Revelation 12:5 - She gave birth to a son, a male child, who ‘will rule all the nations with an iron sceptre.’ And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.

Obviously, the male child is neither the Lamb, nor the Lamb's wife?

So who does it refer to?

Actually, the child does indeed refer to Christ. We can see a red dragon seeking to devour the child who is to be borne by the woman (the Virgin Mary). This is consonant with both Satan trying to tempt Christ in the desert, and Satan thinking he had prevailed against Christ when He died on the cross. But instead, Jesus broke open the gates of Hades and freed the souls held captive there, destroying Satan's power over humanity in the process.

The male child is Christ the Lord. This verse in Revelation 12:5 refers back to the Gospel and birth of Jesus the Christ. Revelation is the literal great tribulation or Jacob's Trouble as prophecy by Samuel and prophets after him. Israel will go through this tribulation, see Matthew 24. God's Son will be their Deliverer from the anti-christ.
