Who Wants To Play A Game With Me?

Ok, well it's not really a game at all, but I'm in need of a little help, as my brain is currently fried and I'm tired of thinking up songs.

Here's the deal: I've recently been hired by a big, new bar in Montreal to DJ their Saturday nights (yay!) and my opening night is this Saturday.

For the last week, I've been overwhelmed getting everything ready (promoting, booking bands, downloading more music, making CDs, making my damn playlist, etc etc.) And I'm so out of it today that my brain just doesn't want to work, so I was thinking, maybe some of you music fans would want to help me make my playlist (well, make my CDs, anyway).

I need songs. 50's Rock n Roll, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Swing, etc. I've got tons and tons, as it is, but I always like to have more, just to be safe.

Anyone wanna help? Please??

Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout
Bill Haley and his Comets I think were 50's.
Chubby Checker
The Beetles
Elvis
The Monkeys and The Beachboys I'm not sure if they were 50's or 60's, along with The Mamas and Papas.
Jerry Lewis
I'll raid my moms CD's to look for more.

I've got Chubby Checkers, Elvis and Bill Haley. I've got a bit of Jerry Lee Lewis, but you just reminded me that I have to get some more, thanks! But those four are pretty much the kind 50's Rock n Roll I'm looking for.

Ha, parents always have the greatest CDs. My dad was the one that got me into 50's RnR.

I've also got a lot of:
Del Shannon
Dion and the Belmonts
Chuck Berry
Buddy Holly
The Big Bopper
Danny and the Juniors

I, for some reason though, can't think of anything else, at the moment. Usually 50's RnR is my element, but my brain is refusing to work today :(

First, I'd like to say CONGRATULATONS! Hopefully, there'll be some decent money in it for you, and I know it's something you've been wanting to do.

I don't have much in the way of 50s music, or of rock-a-billy.

Do you have any Fred Eaglesmith?

Blue Thick Hound
Georgia Overdrive
Steel Guitar
Alternator
Mighty Big Car
Ten Ton Chain

Here's some contemporary folks you might not think of as doing 50's style dance music, but that might make them interesting for their being unusual:

Kasey Chambers - You Make Me Sing
Gillian Welsh - Honey Now
John Prine - Great Rain (blues)
Taj Mahal - Blue Light Boogie
Ry Cooder - Chinito Chinito
(Ry Cooder put out a CD or two of 50s music with an L.A. Chicano flavor, you might want to check out)
Ray Anthony - Dragnet (his update of this 60s theme is great)

Good luck! And have fun!

Thanks tons Pure! I'll definitely be trying out some of this stuff this weekend and if it goes over well, it'll become part of my regular playlist.

I'm really excited. It really IS something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but haven't had great opportunities for it (the other bar I DJed/booked/promoted for gave me a crappy night of the week and even worse pay).

These guys are talking all kinds of awesome stuff, so I really hope it goes over well.

How 'bout the Sultans of Swing? Dire Straights!!! Or go get the "other" stuff at www.swing-music.com/ :D

What type of 50s? Bobby Darin (Mack the Knife, Beyond the Sea), Ricky Nelson (Teenager's Romance), the Everly Brothers (Bye Bye Love) or Elvis (Teddy Bear)?

What exactly defines Rockabilly and Psychobilly? I've never heard the terms until Guitar Hero 2, and I briefly looked into at wiki, but thier music articles are not the best. (Peter Gabriel was one of the original stage divers???? He must have been doing stuff I never heard of if he did.)
Another song I though of is Rock This Town, but I forget who sings it.
*hits head on wall for forgeting Chuck Berry*

You're very welcome. I thought of a couple more: (not strictly rock-a-billy, but great dance music with a distinctive rock-a-billy sound)

Eugenio Finardi - Estrellita
Eugenio Finardi - Mama Left Me (blues)
Kasey Chambers - Light Up A Candle
Kasey Chambers - Crossfire

Rock This Town is done by the ever amazing Stray Cats, one of my all time favorite Rockabilly bands.

Rockabilly is basically the fusion of Country, Doo-Wop and 50's era Rock n Roll (think Johnny Cash, Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Charlie Feathers, etc.)

Psychobilly is the fusion of Doo-Wop/50's Rock and Horror Punk (Horror Punk is Punk with horror themes; the Misfits, for example)... The Horrorpops would be one Psychobilly band you might have heard of.

Thanks. Personally, I don't get into the 50's or 60's (Thier are some 60's, but they are few) that much. While I have heard of the Misfits, Horrorpops is one group I haven't.
