Who wants to work tomorrow?
I don't. But guess who's working. Yeah, me.
Do I have to? Well, no. I have enough seniority to take the day off if I wish, but that just means that one of my subordinate managers has to miss Thanksgiving dinner with her family. So I bite the bullet since I really don't have much going on and work so she can get the day off.
So why do I (and my team) has to work? Greedy corporate America. Retailers have decided that Black Friday (the day of the year retailers go from being in the red to being in the black from an accounting standpoint) wasn't drawing enough business, so they started scaling back opening hours gradually from 4am Friday to as early as 7am on Thanksgiving.

But I don't blame the retailers. Well not exclusively. I put the bulk of the blame on consumers, who greedily gobble up (pun intended) the door-busters on Thanksgiving day without regard for others who are losing the day off to spend with their families.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it's moral for consumers to shop while others are forced away from their family gatherings to serve them?
Would you have a problem with working on Thanksgiving?
