Why are Indians not more outspoken more about racism in India?

You do know that Kendrick just won the pulitzer right?
From street kid to Pulitzer: why Kendrick Lamar deserves the prize
Seriously, what world do you live in. Hip Hop is one of the great musical traditions of modern world, just as rock, jazz, pop, metal, blues etc. You can great credit at Stanford for learning hip hop, just as you can with ballet.

For all y'all's info - here's Kendrick Lamar's single 'Humble', one of the top tracks supporting the album 'Damn', which got the Pullitzer. This is the radio edit (i.e. no swear words!)

Well, a lot of it is about background. So much of what is achievable in the higher echelons of society, especially in the world of private education and politics and so forth, is about your connections. I don't know, on a friendly basis, any headmasters or anybody in the military, but I do know some doctors. Some work as GPs in different practices, one works at the unusual infectious disease ward in Birmingham. None of them seem to have any particular preference for Beethoven AFAIK. It's not something that comes up much, you know?

My question was how many in England's establishment would opine that hip hop is as great as Beethoven.

You have no answer for me. I am killing this conversation.

I was just this morning reading about a homeless man who lived near Wolverhampton who died not too long ago, who was very respected by their community.

You assume because he was homeless he did not know about Beethoven or never read To Kill A Mockingbird? That is a dangerous bias.

Well, I don't know enough of them! But I'd say plenty would. Not many actually listen to Beethoven, I'd think!

Prince Harry likes SKREAM, a dubstep group. Prince William likes Linkin Park, which is American rock. Apparently the "royal couple"'s favourite group is BodyRockers, which I hadn't heard of but apparently "BodyRockers were an English Irish Australian electronic music duo,"

But I really am interested in why it is you see their opinions as more worthy than other people's anyway.

The caste system is a problem but racism is as well....

Not just the caste system but the way Indian men treat Indian women. Years worked at a bank as an IT engineer. I was trying to solve a work problem. There were 3 Indian guys and 1 Indian woman (Bhavna). We were standing in a circle discussing the problem. The three guys were ignoring everything Bhavna was saying. I thought she has a really good idea. So I interjected and repeated what she said and of course saying her idea was very good giving her full credit. Only then did the 3 Indian guys start to listen. I thought it was some kind of sexist thing going on because they did not want to give Bhavna the time of day. Years later she became pretty high level executive so those 3 guys probably work for her now!! I became really good friends with her and her husband. We talked about the caste system once. Here family was from the lawyer caste which help her get into IT.

He probably knew about Beethoven. Dunno if he'd have read To Kill A Mockingbird or not, he was Polish so it'd have been second language. Have you read it?

Apparently some local Sikhs and Hindus would treat him like a sadhu, and bring him food and so on and touch his feet.

Prince Harry is worse than that 14 year old American kid singing hip hop. I would not discuss that parasite who ran around naked in Las Vegas

I am not an elitist .. quite the opposite.

The opinion of the intelligent matter .. look where the working class landed you .. mess called Brexit .. the price tag is going to be I think $80 billion ..

Haha!

Right, but why do you think of those people as more intelligent?

As for Brexit! - a big part of what "got us into" Brexit was propaganda by textbook private-schooled upper class Englishmen like Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson. And a lot of the Leave vote came from affluent southeastern areas, as well. Traditional Labour working class constituencies of Scotland were solidly pro-Remain. But yes, certainly a fair degree of working class backlash was involved in Brexit, but one might well phrase that as 'this is what happens when the concerns of the less affluent 50% of the population are sidelined for too long'.

Why do I think of basketball players as being taller than average population? Anyone who is a doctor, a lawyer, a chartered accountant, a first class post-grad in any of the major subjects from good college .. has spent hours honing his/her brain

An average blue collar worker cannot match an average doctor in IQ. Have you looked at the CA exam question papers .. passing CA requires a top notch brain .. should I discard a view from that lump of neurons for view from a bus driver's lump of neurons?

Are you saying a person with less IQ has better understanding of this world than a person with more IQ?

No matter what Boris Johnson and Farrage did it was the working class which voted in Brexit (what did Alan Duncan say .. "it was a working class tantrum" .. hmm)

Then you are actually accepting what I said - working class has no ability to analyse what is fed to it and can be manipulated but not the establishment

You may well be right, as far as averages go, but 50% of any group lies above the mean and 50% below. So it's by no means a sure-fire tell.

But intelligence is not a simple thing, there are many different kinds of intelligence, and many different ways of looking at people. To be honest, I'm not even sure that to say a person is more or less intelligent means much. But even if it does, does that mean analytical intelligence, emotional intelligence...? An American researcher proposed in the '80s that there are nine types of intelligence (infographic below). A doctor/lawyer/etc might well test highly on one or some of these metrics, but a builder, a gardener, a nurse, a cleaner, would likely rank highly on others. IQ is by no means a complete or reliable picture of something as nebulous as intelligence.

And no, I certainly wouldn't advocate discarding anybody's views - be it a doctor's or a bus driver's.

When someone goes into bell curve and statistical distribution of data above and below mean .. they have lost faith in their argument

Nice chat. Will sign out now.

It's missing everything around stomach intelligence.

I'm low on stomach intelligence, but high on cooking intelligence. Fortunately, my girlfriend is very good at stomach intelligence.

I didn't mention either of those things. Just a reminder that averages hide a lot.

Enjoy the remainder of your evening!

By average I meant mode (the greatest frequency) not mean.

Just wanted to slip in that tiny correction .. cannot go on writing "modal bus driver IQ" so wrote "average bus driver's IQ" but to be interpreted as mode. There is no 50% above and below it.

Now I will be gone.

I have made my point adequately. You don't need to accept it. There's nothing inferior about hip hop compared to classical. Of course one is a type of singing and another is simply music. So the comparison makes no sense anyways.

I missed that "you" and had to return

I looked up the guy and listened to something called Humble (do we call a hip hop thingy song?) completely random selection the internet made for me

and the lyrics go

Girl, I can buy your *** the world with my paystub

(Hol' up *****) sit down,
(Hol' up lil *****, hol' up, lil *****) be humble
(Hol' up *****) sit down (sit down hol' up lil *****)

Due to my advancing age (40 soon) I am beginning to lack neuro-plasticity (according to this article Why Aging Makes It Hard to Learn New Tricks) hence I cannot appreciate such beautiful and moving lyrics .. with B (female dog) word in every line

All I ask if why does RF software not allow the lyrics to be published and put in ****** automatically

Are they err what is the old-fashioned word .. obscene? Is your favorite songwriter/singer using obscene words with such frequency? You call this culture? I think you have no clue of what is art and culture.

Not obscene. Adult. The forum is a public forum and even children can view it. That's why its sanitized and sexual material is restricted to appropriate sub forum.
My favorite song writer is Bob Dylan. I don't yet have a proper ear to appreciate hip hop, its a problem with non native speakers of English, unfortunately.

But you do appreciate such generous usage of the B word I gather

To cut a long story short .. you are advocating a culture that you also see fit to be censored (or next time you come home to Calcutta sing it aloud in front of your parents .. I will carry samosas and stuff .. we can have a small party .. a high tea as the British would say)

Hmm I advocate something the lyrics of which are to be hidden .. hmm

Arguing over which form of entertainment is better?
Pbbbttttttt!!!!
No one form is objectively better than another.
One likes what one likes, & that is all that matters.
