Why crucifixion? Wouldn't stoning be the prescribed punishment for Jesus under religious law?

The High Priest could order the execution of any Gentile who entered the inner Sanctums of the Temple without needing any further authority from the Prefect, but the Prefect was the only person oin Judea, Samaria or Idumea who could impose the penalty of execution, and the execution would therefore be a Roman one.
Tell that to Stephen.

Before Jesus, there had been a couple of Jewish rebellions that I looked-up.

Pontius Pilate was provocative towards the Jews, furthering disdain of Roman authority.

If what Josephus says is true and I know there are those of you who don't, it points out that Rome had dealt with rebellions before they killed Jesus. Pontius Pilate would not want to arouse Tiberius's concern in Judea as he latter found out with the Samaritan uprising.

Crucifixion was a Roman punishment. Why wasnt Jesus executed in accordance with religious law?

It was an interesting question that cropped up and was curious why crucifixion took presidence over other capital punishments of the time.

Thoughts?
Jesus wasn't convicted of a religious crime. Pilate didn't care about that. He was a violent antiRoman terrorist/ freedom fighter. He got the usual treatment once convicted.

Crucifixion wasn't bothered with for just any criminal. It was used on rebellious slaves and anti imperial fighters. Judea was littered with them at the time. Soon thereafter Rome got so fed up they destroyed Judea altogether.

Right if in context and in accordance with Jewish law. To put a man to death and (then) put him on a pole wouldnt require the Roman government. Just Jewish authorities.

They threatened the Roman Official so they cannot be absolved of the crime committed by them; they are equally responsible but even more or most as Pilate said he found no fault with Jesus.

They did try to stone Him before but He hid. (John 8:59)

This becomes somewhat controversial in the face of the corruptions made in John:
“There is dispute over the authenticity of the passage between John 7:53 and 8:11.”
John 8 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And also due to the corruption relating to “before Abraham was made, I am” John: 8-59:

Quote
“CHRISTIAN … (Revelation 18:2) such as THE SELF-STYLED 'Messianic Jewish Bible Institute (MJBI)' HAVE DELIBERATELY CORRUPTED the blessed words in Exodus 3:14 to BLASPHEMOUSLY read as follows:
'And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM. And He said: thus shall you say to the children of Israel 'I AM' has sent me to you'
(Exodus 3:14. MJBI; KJV; DOUAY-RHEIMS etc blasphemous corruptions)
These so called 'Messianics' or 'Messianic Jews' together with their fellow-travellerRoman catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Pentecostal and Messianic Christian …. (Revelation 18:2) have dared to "ADD TO...and TAKE AWAY FROM" (Deuteronomy 13:1. Revelation 22:10) the blessed words "Elohiym" and "I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE" and "I WILL BE" by their substituting the "NAMES OF BLASPHEMY" (Revelation 17:3): 'God'; 'I AM THAT I AM'; and 'I AM' in order to "...BLASPHEME THY NAME" (Psalm 74:10) and to "LEAD ASTRAY" (Matthew 24:11) the Jewish people into worshipping and praying to the Christian IDOLS 'yeshu'; 'jesus'; 'christ'; 'serapis'; 'aniyokus'; 'jesus christ'; 'christ jesus'; 'trinity'; 'triunity' etc which have not and will not save anyone.” Unquote

That was not Nowhere Man's question? The question was/is:-
Why crucifixion? Wouldn't stoning be the prescribed punishment for Jesus under religious law

Most scholars whose books I have read do accept that Jesus was crucified, although some of them seem to have overlooked that the Great Sanhedrin could order the execution of various offenders. See this site:-

SANHEDRIN - JewishEncyclopedia.com
The Great Sanhedrin
That to which the Gospels and Josephus refer was the highest political authority, and at the same time the supreme court; this alone was empowered to deal with criminal cases and to impose the sentence of capital punishment. The other, sitting in the hall of hewn stone, was the highest court dealing with the religious law, being in charge also of the religious instruction of the people (Sanh. xi. 2-4).

...but since Pilate ordered the (said) execution, he must have believed that Jesus's Affrays and Picketing of the Temple Court's over two days was much more than a religious offence. No?

What is great about it? They persecuted an innocent person.

Gotta love that 2000 years later people try to portrait the roman empire as some sort of peaceful entity.

We should probably ask the residents of Carthage about that.

The Romans actually used several different methods of executing people, stabbing, beheading etc. Crucifixion was reserved almost exclusively for the crime of sedition. The point of crucifixion was not just to kill the person, but to put their bodies on display to show what happens to those who challenge Rome. In fact there were instances where a person was executed first, and then crucified.

I didn't say they didn't it was the only method they used and I didn't say what crimes they used it for.
But thanks for the history lesson, anyway.

Who portrayed the Roman Empire as some sort of peaceful entity?

Jesus was actually tried more than once. At first he was tried by the Sanhedrin in absentia and convicted and sentence to death, then when he was arrested he was tried again by the Sanhedrin and convicted but no sentence was delivered other then he be sent to Pilate to be tried for his crime against the Empire. Then he was brought to Pilate and questioned, Pilate then sent him to be tried by Herod for his crimes against the crown. Herod abstained from passing judgement and sentencing him and he was then sent back to Pilate to be sentence. Pilate found him guilty and sentence him to death for treason and insurrection and he was executed.

There are reasons to doubt the historical accuracy of any trials. I doubt there was any trial at all.

Other capital punishment? Jesus was tried in the roman court, not by Jewish law.
