I'm just glad we're not seeing a bunch of moon landing deniers in this thread.
Those people make all other conspiracy theorists look like pikers.
Reminds of a cool movie, Capricorn One. But i think it was a Mars landing being faked in that one. And OJ Simpson was in it.

I'm a moon-landing-denier denier. Will that do?

I remember that movie! That's an old one, isn't it?

I can't beleive anybody could think that the astonishing acheivements of NASA in the 60's were 'useless'.

It made a vast contribution to human knowledge - it was one of the most important acheivements in history.

Be interesting to see a comparison of how many think it useless crossed with what they think the age of the earth is. Wanna guess on the correlation coefficient?

Bout the same as the tea party/climate change skeptic correlation

The space program was very useful and worthwhile, but mostly for the unsung reasons. Satellites are obscenely useful. Daydreams of reaching the moon at ludicrous cost are not.

As an atheist NASA always seemed to me such a beacon of hope, optimism and cooperation. At the height of the Cuban missile crisis, when the doomsday clock was seconds from midnight Friendship Seven flew over my city of Perth in a feat of supreme international cooperation.

To me they represent the best of us, an icon that can give me some of the sense of awe and wonder than faith gives to others.

My best mate is a space tragic, she met Buzz Aldrin and Andy Thomas last weekend and has been walking a foot above the ground ever since.

Obviously you did not grow up during the 40's and 50's and into the early 60's. That period of time, if you study history, was a major conflict called the "Cold War". The world came very close to nuclear obliteration during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The period of time following the end of WWII to almost the present day was basically a "war" to determine what country had the technology and willpower to win. The Soviets gained considerable bragging rights when Sputnik was launched, by the US going to the moon proved that we were better technology wise than the USSR.

Right, that's what I said. We wanted to show Russia how cool we are, and it helped bring on the technological revolution.

wasn't aware there was a correlation.

I always thought Americans went to the moon in order to boost cheese production. But if that's not so, then how come there are so many more kinds of cheese for sale in the supermarkets today than there were in the early 60s? It seems pretty straight-forward cause and effect to me.

Which explains why the state of Wisconsin refused to celebrate the lunar landing.

That's an urban myth. Nobody wants moon cheese, it's gluten free.
