Why did the blood have to touch people?

You will be assimilated; it is His Will.
Can you point to any scripture whereas it states we sacrificed our children? Yes, we were warned not to do as such, but that's not the same as actually stating we did.
''Burnt in the fire'' does not necessarily mean sacrificed in death

You are ignoring what the scriptures state and imposing something that it doesn't state. Where the criticism of the sacrifices comes in as found within the Prophetic books in the Tanakh is the rote practice of offering sacrifices minus any intent to try and avoid sinning in the future, and some were undoubtedly doing just that. At no point are we told we must stop the sacrificial system.

It seems to me that God himself put an end to the sacrificial system by removing the jewish temple and its priesthood. Under the law, only a levite priest was permitted to place a sacrifice on the alter. And only the high priest could make the yearly atonement for the people of Isreal.

Now there is no priesthood, no temple and no alter.... God has spoken.

God performed the ultimate sacrifice. He sacrificed his only begotten son, his human sacrifice of Jesus the sacrificial lamb.

God could have simply forgiven the Jews. But that would not have been enough for the blood thirsty mob. He accepted their sacrificial offerings in the past and was no exception to the practice.

The sacrifice wasn't the people's idea, but God's. To my understanding someone has to pay the price for sin, and God gave his son Jesus for this purpose.

David wrote:

Psalms 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

No human sacrifice was necessary.
