Why do Black men always turn to Islam in jail and not Christianity?

It's because among black nationalist/black supremacist types and some of the "black power" types, Christianity is seen is as "the white man's religion" or the "the slave master's religion" with a "white God". So they think Islam is somehow more appropriate for black people and more masculine, and racism festers in the prison system so they're going to be drawn to racist understandings of religions. It's really stupid.

Hundreds upon hundreds of black men i know of have come out of jail as Muslims. I can only think of 1 off the top of my head who became a born again Christian while locked up.

Even though the Nation of Islam is not seen as being a part of the real Islam, a lot of black men actually find their way to Islam via guys like Farrakhan and previously Malcolm X.

What about the huge amount of white men who join the white rascist version of
Asatru religion Thor is their God and they convert people a lot of white men in prison convert to that.

There is also a small movement in a few prisons to convert to Buddhism and I've seen a few stories about that as well.

There are Buddhist and Hare Krishna converts as this thread suggests. But there are also plenty of African American men converting to Christianity too.

In the prison environment I imagine turning the other cheek would be followed by someone wanting you to spread your cheeks. Islam has always seemed more a warrior religion than Christianity so it would make sense to adopt one that can justify what one might have to do to survive in prison booty intact. One would also presumably have the protection of the United tribe or group.

Oh that's very interesting. But its believable. Sense I saw a tv show on a guy who converted to Buddhism ;I heard about a group who went into a certain prisons in a certain state and converted a lot of the men to Buddhism from a monk I use to know, I can certainly see men in prison turning to different religions.

AA maybe but they do not consider it to be a religion. According to WIki if you combine Catholicism and Protestant Christians are number 1, if you don't Muslims are number one.

BTW there are millions of Muslims and Millions of Christians. However Muslims only make up 9 percent in America so not sure how much the percent is for for Christians but it can't be more then a third for both Muslim and Christians.

So I am sure there is plenty of room for other religions to dominate as well.

If it is true, then the most obvious possibility would be that they hang with other blacks already in prison and those blacks are already Muslim. But that's just a guess.
