Why do you fear?

I'm NOT asking any of the following:
- Why is there fear,
- What causes fear (in General)
- How fear began
- How your religion explains fear
- What are your phobias

I AM asking:

What are you afraid of. The rational fear that sits in your belly eating your confidence, destroying your concentration, worrying your mind.

Ask yourself:

Why in your heart you are afraid.

A response is not necessary, just consider it truthfully, do not fool yourself.

I may likely be the only one who says they do not have any fears.
Like evil, I bid fear a fond adieu many years ago.

Heights. Sacred of HEIGHTS.... oooo.. sacred me.. those letters where to tall. I know it's a phobia, but it's all that really bothers me. If I know I got to cross a tall bridge, I will ride in the middle. If I know I got to fly, it worries me for days. will make sure I sit in the middle. Not much else bothers me.

I had no fears or worries at all as a boy.
In fact fears and worries did not start till I was married.
Responsibilities bring on worry.
Now I am old I have few worries and again no real fears.

Fears and worries are the result of contemplating the unknown.
As you get older this becomes less important.

Le plongeur avec attitude...
I approach most of my "fears" with a calculation to end them. I used to have a HUGE fear of sharks... so I stepped off the end of a boat one day. Once I got to meet a couple of my toothy fears, I continued on.

I was afraid of heights... so when at the water park I FORCED myself to their highest precipice and threw myself off. I had to do this a few times to overcome my atavistic fear and then I went and became a climbing instructor.

Those were my biggest "describable" fears. But there is one more: one that has motivated much of what I do: the fear of being only mediocre. My wife laughs at my antics. Sometimes this fear motivates me and some time it paralyses me. I didn't finish my Eagle or even college due to this fear. However, when I went back to being a mechanic, I became an ASE certified Master Auto Technician, as a Service Manager for Goodyear, I pushed my store to being the World's largest Goodyearn (it was only #2 in Orlando prior to this). As a Network consultant, I hold an MCSE. Instead of just learning how to climb, I became an instructor. Instead of just learning Scuba, I became an instructor and am now an Instructor Trainer. The same is true for First Aid. What's next? Just watch and see! :D

BTW, I wish I could ascribe my success with ScubaBoard to the same fears, but that was largely accidental.

Nothing. I'm not afraid of anything. Time usually fixes problems. Things usually work out well, with any luck at all.

I have a very deep-seated fear of centipedes and millipedes. I don't quite understand why. I used to dig 'forts' when I was a child in S.C., and while I disliked it when I had to scoop them out of the way, I didn't get angry at them as I do know. I think it might be a kind of soul-fear, since this aversion causes me to get angry, too. I don't fully understand it.

Failure. Many times I won't do something I want because I'm afraid I won't be able to finish it or succed at it. Not a very healthy thing, I know. I'm working on it.....

I fear three things in life;

1. Not having accumulated enough money to be able to see my sons have a start in life, and to see my wife through (if and when I die before her).
2. being seen as a recluse, hermit......and not being able to satisfy my wife's social needs.........
3. real bad pain. And that includes the pain of death............:)

I HATE CENTIPEDES! They used to frequent my house a few years ago, and they were huge, like three to four inches long and an inch wide. One day I was brushing my teeth and one fell right on my head. I had a German exchange student during that time too, and she saw one and freaked out, "I've never seen anything like that!" to which I replied, "Welcome to America."

How do I protect them. It's a fairliy primitive impulse, especially for a young male.

You're afraid you can't protect them? That seems like a worthy thing to be afraid of if its' true.

It's true for any man. There is nothing that is within anybody's control.

We all want control, but we know we can't have it. This is where that most rational of the most irrational emotions comes from.

Why are you worrying about things you have no control over? There is no doubt in my mind that I would do everything in my power to protect the ones' I love.

I have thought of something I'm afraid of though... PAIN.

I don't mind the idea of death, but I hate pain. I am afraid of pain.
