Why Does Hamas Kill Civilians?

I heard an interesting extensive piece on NPR.
It was about the history of Hamas.
One thing stood out...
Hamas had targeted military until an American-Israeli
Jew massacred 29 adults & children (injuring 125) at
a Hebron mosque. During protests, Israel killed many
more people.
That was when Hamas began to target civilians.

This doesn't justify anything that anyone does.
It's likely not the only reason Hamas kills civilians.
But it's useful to understand why people feel the
way they do. That can be useful to craft solutions
to conflicts.

And yet, many non-Jews live happy, free, totally equal lives in Israel. They are judges, doctors, politicians... almost as if it's a free society!
No, they don't:

Non-Jews and Jews cannot even legally marry in Israel. Palestinians are not covered by the "law of return", but someone can convert to Judaism, move to Israel and displace a Palestinian family from their homes with the government's blessing. But Palestinians in the diaspora are not allowed to return.

You cannot have an ethnocracy that privileges one group (Jews, in this case) over all others and be democratic. You cannot have a "Jewish state" and be free and democratic at the same time. Israel is an artificial state created through ethnic cleansing. That's the only way they got a Jewish majority in a non-Jewish land - killing and displacing the people who were there before. And the process is still going on.

20% of Israeli citizens are Arabs.
I'm aware that there's non-Jewish Israelis. It was one generalization to answer another generalization. However, there still aren't equal rights between Jewish and Arab Israelis. They're not even allowed to marry. There's not even a constitution in Israel so the courts basically make it up as they go.

How many of them are in jail/prison?

How many of the palestinians of gaza are in that percentage? Gaza is israel's property and under israeli control by land/air and sea.

How many of them can vote in israeli elections?

It pisses me off when Israel supporters use what legal rights LGBT people in Israel have as a wedge to try to get LGBT people on their side. It's cynical bs. Those laws are a relic of when Israeli society was somewhat more secular, and that society is gone. Netanywhu has the most right-wing and religious government in Israeli history and ultra-right religious fanaticism is very popular in Israel. There was a gay hating Haredi Jew who went on a stabbing spree at Jerusalem Pride in 2015, so even that selling point may not last long.

Just because there's some things about Israel that aren't horrible (for Israelis only), that doesn't cancel out all the things that are horrible. The Nazis had animal welfare laws (citizens who violated them were actually sent to concentration camps, which actually isn't a bad idea, except it would be prison here), so I guess that makes everything else okay!

Also, almost all countries don't have the same views about homosexuality as Western countries and it is still at least discouraged and a taboo, if not scandalous and a crime. So why would I be shocked that some Middle Eastern people look down on it and some European settlers are okay with it? It's to be expected. That doesn't mean how the settlers are treating the Middle Eastern people is okay.

I know, they will put west bank palestinians in jail for defending themselves from settlers that are attacking them and now the capital of israel, tel aviv is the LGBT capital of europe as long as they support the big bibi nutlessyahoo.

Funny how some people claim israel is holy land.

ultra-right religious fanaticism is very popular in Israel.
And in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Afghanistan.

And in America, too.

It's done damage in all of those places.

And for me, although I have other reasons as well, this is reason enough to be antitheistic and hope for the waning of the influence of all Abrahamic religion. I'd also like to see its misogyny, homophobia, and atheophobia disappear from the world, as well as any anti-education or anti-science influence it has.
