I'm not understanding the correlation here to what I said.
Religion in general does Not have to be about one's purpose even though an inquiring mind wants to know.
People do look to religion for answers but often religion is corrupted even going as far back to ancient Babylon.
As those ancient people migrated away from ancient Babylon they took with themselves their religious ideas and spread their ideas throughout the known world. That is why similar or overlapping religious ideas still existing in today's world.
Variations of religious ideas and practices can be traced back to their roots in ancient religious Babylon.
Whereas, Jesus stressed 'worship' at John 4:23-24 as to Who to worship by what Jesus taught.
Through the teachings of Jesus we can find the nature of being, nature of the world and God's wonderful purpose for the humble meek people to inherit the Earth because the wicked will be gone - Psalms 92:7; 104:35; 145:20; Proverbs 2:21-22

The title of the thread isn’t “What Is Religion About?” It’s “Why Does Religion Exist?”

Religion exists because people like Nimrod want to be worshipped.
False clergy set themselves up as if the are 'god' even though they can be anti-God.
Religion emerged sometime during the Paleolithic era some 45-200 thousand years ago. Nimrod is said to existed around 2200 BCE. Were there prophecies of Nimrod during the Paleolithic age?

Here is a thought that might be of interest at Revelation chapters 17-18 because 'religion' is in bed with the political.
Religion often backs the political. Even during war time clergy have used the pulpit as a recruiting station so parents will sacrifice their sons on the national Altar of War as if that is the same thing as the Altar of God.
Business men make $ money $ off of religion so they perpetuate it to their satisfaction.
Religion exists because she thinks of herself as some sort of 'religious queen' that will never see sorrow or mourning.

What is similar or overlapping in today's religious world is what traces back to its base in ancient Babylon.
Even astrology traces back to ancient Babylon.
I'm connecting today's religious world scene with its religious ideas back to what Nimrod started.
I'm wondering what religious practices or ideas you have in mind going on in the Paleolithic era.

Not everything traces back to Babylon. In fact very little does.

Astrology has been around for longer than that.

Worship and ritual.

Why Does Religion Exist?

Why it must not exist, please?

Religion has many useful benefits for the off-spring, why deny the progeny of the assets they inherit from their forefathers/mothers lawfully, please, right?*
I don't say that the bad effects of Indoctrinations, if any, are not to be cared against, right?
It is good to educate the children instead of leaving them blank in the wild to suffer, right?

Regards

*Science Says: Religion Is Good For Your Health
" Thus, there is ample reason to believe that faith in a higher power is associated with health, and in a positive way. For example, researchers at the Mayo Clinic concluded, “Most studies have shown that religious involvement and spirituality are associated with better health outcomes, including greater longevity, coping skills, and health-related quality of life (even during terminal illness) and less anxiety, depression, and suicide. Several studies have shown that addressing the spiritual needs of the patient may enhance recovery from illness.” "

Connecting today's practices to ancient practices doesn't answer why religion exists. Understanding the origins of religious rites and beliefs does. Why did people form religious beliefs based on the moon, sun, and stars? Why were rituals performed? Why did people relate gods with the cosmos and worship them? Why did people create religious art?

These are what helps one to understand why religion exists, not taking the practices of one man that may have existed 4000+ years ago.

Well something created the elements that created the Big Bang that created the universe that created us.

Sounds like something scientists should be interested in.
They are, to a point.

May I recommend Victor J. Stenger's books to you? He tackles the matter head-on, although I don't expect that you will like the conclusions very much.

Well, organized authoritarian religions, certainly. But even in our ancient history we were animists. Heck, even chimpanzees exhibit behaviors that if it were humans doing it, we would call religious. So I am of the opinion that religion predates modern humans.

I'm no expert, but from my studies I have formed the following opinion:
The origin of religion is the sense of awe that we all feel when looking at the wonders of nature. We were responding religiously to things like thunder storms and magnificent waterfalls and amazing sequoia trees long, long before we had any conscious theologies.

Well that is one theory, and I tend to agree with it. But many feel otherwise. There are, for example, many people who believe the universe has always existed, that it was never created.

Oy veh. Religion predates Sumerian civilizations by tens of thousands of years, possibly hundreds of thousands of years. Religions exist today that have no relationship to Babylon at all, such as Buddhism.
