Why Don’t Jews Believe God Can Take Human Form?

Not only Jews but Muslims too. Anyone for that matter. Is it a book that tells you that or your own gut?

Is there a book that says which religions believe that God can take human form and which religions don't believe that?

It seems to me that if a religion considers God to be all powerful, then it would seem that God could take whatever form he/she/they would want to take. If God wants to take the form of an armadillo, then why not?

Each religion has its own take on the matter. Armadillo? A chair? I don’t think so but you can think that.

I figured as much, but I don't know what each religion's take is on this particular matter.

I can also think that there is no god at all.

But if someone presents the idea of a god who is all powerful and can create an entire universe from scratch, then why ascribe some super powers to do some things, while saying he can't do other things? How does anyone know what God can or can't do?

I respect your skeptic views.

My title and first post covers that.

You mentioned it, yes, but you also asked if it came from a book. I'm also wondering if there's such a book that details this information or even how you found out that Jews and Muslims do not believe God can take human form.

I was trying to confirm whether it was really true that Jews and Muslims believe that God is incapable of taking human form. My point was that, in the context of an all-powerful God, then I would surmise that He can do whatever He wills and appear in whatever form He wishes. If someone is saying that there's something God is incapable of doing, then it may be referring to a God which is not all-powerful.

It's not that God can't, it's that he won't, because it is contrary to his nature. He won't become a man for the same reason he won't become this tree or that rock.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man nor a son of man.
1 Samuel 15:29 He is not a man.
Job 9:32 He is not a man.
Hosea 11:9 I am God, and not a man

"Incapable" is the wrong word. It's something God "won't" do because it is contrary to his nature. That is what both Jews and Muslims believe.

And you are correct. Saying God is a man is really no different than saying he is an armadillo.
