Only if one feels attracted to someone. If you feel like living and intimate relationship with that person. Otherwise I don't see any good reason to marry again.

It's not necessary. In the past marriages were arranged and often were happy. Romance is not necessary but "little gestures" are like adding spices to a meal - it improves the relationship.

Tax benefits, insurance, etc? You can have sex and romance without marriage, but IMO if you wanna have kids, I think it benefits the kids if parents are married. If one parent runs off, at least you can divorce and get some compensation.

Marriage wasn't a prerequisite for sex to me so it wouldn't be the reason that we get married even as a young person let alone an old person. It would be to throw a big party to celebrate being together as well as uniting uniting decision making power and assets under the law of the society that I am in.
It makes things like health and life insurance easier as well as automatic inheritance and medical decisions without needing a lawyer an Poa or living will.

Humans like to feel connected -- it makes us comfortable. Many people who have been married for many decades have lost all interest in sex, but lost none of the connection to the spouse that they used to have it with.

I keep wondering why so many RF members seem to have so little insight into some of the very simple things that comprise what it means just to be human. Are they all so focused on some other reality than this one, that they can't easily cope with their own reality/

I have a wedding ring tattooed on my hand. I'm not legally married. Then why did I do it?

I'm married to God. Richard Dawkins was right - "Pantheism is the sex'ed up atheism." lol

But really, I like to think that the ring shows a degree of devotion I have towards pantheism, syntheism and what I believe to be God. What nature is becoming. I know girls are going to freak out if they are interested in me and see that ring. I don't care. I consider myself a devotee of my own beliefs, the idea of what God means to me, and I'm proud of it.

If by one chance I actually do get married to a woman one day I'll put an actual ring over it. I can always take her ring off, but the tattoo symbolizes that God always comes first in my life. I know most people can't really understand that.

I think companionship is the main reason. Boss and I go waterfall hunting, look at scenery, or go on pilgrimages and cultural excursions. We watch TV shows together, and go on walks. If you imagine somebody doing all that stuff alone (there are exceptions) it's easy to see why a person might remarry. Dad would have if he'd have found someone, after Mom passed. One of my aunts did. Social people like other people by definition.

If there is no physical attraction or sex involved, I wouldn't call it marriage. But still some people may get married because they don't want to be alone, or they want to have a companion. There must be some attraction either physically or spiritually.

In the Baha'i marriage ceremony all that is read is: “We will all, verily, abide by the will of God.”

Why would sex need to be involved once a couple is past the child-bearing years?

or emotionally or intellectually, unless it is an arranged marriage, but arranged marriages are not the case with older couples.

it's easy to see why a person might remarry. Dad would have if he'd have found someone, after Mom passed. One of my aunts did.

Did your dad look for someone? Did your aunt look?
Seek and ye shall find, well maybe...

My dad passed on at age 52 when my mom was 51 and she lived to be 93, but she never remarried.
