Why is a Muslim considered faithful if they do bad things in the name of the Quran?

Countries with backward laws will eventually phase out in time, as the other countries did. It's a matter of how and when it will happen.

I'm sorry, but that seems like an "easy for you to say" comment. Is that really what you think we should say to the millions upon millions of oppressed women in the Muslim world? Are we supposed to say to those women: "Sucks to be you, but many generations from now, your country's backwards laws will phase out." ?

Then propose how we would change it.

You don't have an idea. We can change our lives and hope others can follow such examples. But no one person can change millions of people's ideas overnight. I know things will change, because things always change. I am sorry they have to live under such conditions. No one woman should. Me saying that they will phase out does not make me oblivious to the suffering they go through. I know I can't change all of that. Neither could I change the brainwashed people in North Korea. In the end it will be up to them and I can hope it changes soon.

I do have an idea, thanks for asking ;)

Borrowing as I do from Confucius, we start by being honest about the nature of Islam. This is not about a handful of terrorists. This is not about prejudice towards Muslims.

This is, about being honest that Islam is - IMO - a regressive, barbaric set of ideas. Islam is NOT just another religion, it is a total ideology. Islam IS - IMO - theocratic (i.e. anti-secular), misogynistic, homophobic, anti-semitic, and supremacist.

Islam needs to be reformed. We must all be honest about the nature of Islam. As it stands, our politicians are not honest about Islam and our journalists are not honest about Islam. This dishonesty must stop.

The thing is, there IS no "Islam". Just like there is no "Christianity" or "Buddhism" because there are many sects. Because they don't all share the same customs, beliefs or rules. Sometimes it depends on how much they follow sharia law as not all follow it to the letter.

Many countries who follow sharia law do need to change, but when rules are changed it will still be up to the people to follow it. You can have the most basic and fair rules and if you are dealing with people who don't abide such things, you can't make them even if you try to enforce it.

You also have to look at those who twist and pervert Islam for their own needs. They end up giving it a bad name and they end up influencing those who are too weak minded to think for themselves.

I see are media as using Muslims as a way to project are anger to. You do see Muslim countries that are barbaric and hate America, but you also have to look at the other side of the story, as Americans interfered in many middle eastern conflicts, aided and betrayed others, building embassies, trying to change their way of life ect. Like with Israel and Palestine. Many things that Palestinians have done were bad and barbaric, but you also have to look at the Israelis too who forced out many of them out of their homes and tried to change their ways. There is always more than one side of the story.

Muslims are not the real threat anyway. There are threats out there that are much more dangerous than Islamic extremism.

The thing is, there IS no "Islam"

In which case we cannot ascribe any benefits to Islam either. So if it has no benefits, and we know it often has so many problems, why not just abandon it.

But really, there IS an Islam. If nothing else is Islam is the belief that the Quran is the perfect, timeless, unalterable word of god, and that Muhammad was the perfect role model. Those two ideas are almost universally held as true by Muslims. Those two ideas alone support my previous claims.
