Why is Homosexuality a sin?

Why are homosexuality and other "abnormal" sexual practices wrong? I'd just like to know what the Christians on here think. I wasn't sure whether there was a concrete reason, or whether it was more of a belief.

P.S.: I'm not Christian, and I do disagree with this view, but I'm not here to debate. I genuinely just want to know your ideas on the subject, so that I have a better understanding of your perspective. :help:

Homosexuality is wrong because homosexuals typically prefer partners who are Latex-challenged, and this an abomination to the Acme Latex Love Doll Corporation.

Wow, I figured by posting in the Christianity forum, I'd get much different answers. I know many people, even many Christians, don't see these as wrong, but I was mainly directing the question at people who do think this stuff is immoral.

My perspective is that homosexuality isn't the same as real love in the same way that lust isn't real love. While I don't see a problem with people of the same gender being very intimate friends, when that intimacy becomes physical (in my opinion) it's totally a selfish thing.

I don't see homosexuality as any worse than if a guy dated a girl just to have sex with her.

I DO think that Christians tend to make TOO big of a deal out of homosexuality. In the Bible, it's only one sin out of all the other ways that people harm themselves. Why single homosexuals out? How about the liars and the murderers and child molesters? Those seem much more socially harmful 'sins'. Homosexuality is a personal issue, so really, Christians should let people deal with it on a personal level. It should not be on the public stage like the circus it is now (although to be fair, these 'homosexual rights' groups are the ones making it a circus).

Because homosexuals do not produce new tithing members of the Church. If everyone was gay the Church would go broke in a generation.
That's a pretty odd answer for a "Christian." Perhaps you're really a Taoist in disguise.

Well that got me laughing. I don't think it's a big deal, and don't give it much thought. 99% of the time I do hear it, its people making sure I know their not straight. However i can see where people would think it's not natural, in the context of human biology. I suppose if two of any one gender could produce offspring from sex, then the church and other fanatics would relax. (gotta protect that constant influx of money) :)

Homosexuality is considered a sin by Christians due to an old Deutoronomy listed law (part of the law of Moses) although the statement is easy to refute. Paul also mentions that homosexuality is a sin in the English translated Bibles, but some people think that it might be a misunderstanding of the word translated to homosexual. So there are varying opinions on homosexuality within Christianity.

You wanted the opinion of Christians. Can I give mine without getting attacked? We'll see . . . .

God gave us the power of procreation (sex) with strict rules on using it. He permits it in one situation--between husband and wife only and for two purposes: 1. Conceiving children and 2. Strengthening the bond of the marital relationship. Anything other than that is immoral, whether it's homo or heterosexual.

Each spirit that comes to this earth is God's child and God is particular about the circumstances of their birth. Each child needs and deserves a mother and father, married and raising the child together. As a Christian I believe this is what God intended and when we violate his laws and willfully or carelessly conceive a child under different circumstances, then we will have to answer to him.

Obviously the entire gay community will want to throttle me for this, and the subject has been thoroughly beaten to death in another thread. But the question was asked, so that's my opinion.

Thank you, and no, I won't attack you. I do have one follow up question, though. Why do you think we are given these urges and thoughts, if they serve no purpose but to cause us to sin? That's all I'll ask of you, as I think anything else would spill over into debate. In any case, thank you for your opinion.

Are you referring to homosexual urges? I would put them into the category of any earthly weakness. We all come into this world with handicaps to overcome. One might be alcoholism, another might be mental illness, another might be something more physical, or another might be anger issues, etc. We are given weaknesses by God to teach us humility and faith. Then with his help, we can turn those weaknesses into strengths.
Frankly, I can't think of a worse handicap than homosexuality, and my heart goes out to those afflicted with it. I have to believe it can be overcome, and many have been successful in this. If not, even though a celibate life seems cruel and unfair, there is life beyond this life and no blessing will be denied to anyone who does all they can to be obedient to God.

Thank you for not attacking me.

I guess I meant homosexual urges along with any other urges that don't further the process of procreation or a loving relationship between 2 married people, but I think your answer covers them too. I have to say that I'm surprised about your assessment of the severity of the handicap of homosexuality. Thanks again.

And you don't have to thank me for not attacking you. It should just be expected.

Wow, this ist he first time I've seen a christian agree with my view on this. Homosexuality is a sin because God says it is in the Bible, just like murder, lying, idolatry, etc. A sin is a sin is a sin, none are any better or worse than the other. I live in sin everyday because I cannot attain the perfection of Jesus. Homosexuality is just as much of a sin as my tolerating it (IMO) as much as it is a sin as if I hated homosexuals (which I don't). If I hated a homosexual for being a sinner, I'd have to hate myself too, because I am just as much of a sinner- the only difference is I have given my life and my daily struggle against sin (which I mostly fail) to Jesus who promises me a place in heaven for accepting his life, death and resurrection in exchange for my sin.
I hope this came out right- my head hurts :(

I'm a Christian but I just don't get the need to beat oneself up. We're good. Sin isn't a genetic flaw that we inherit at birth. Repressing ourselves can't be good. When I eventually die I hope to have surrendered to every urge that I have ever had (excepting those that would harm another). We have life. I am intent on living and savouring every second of it. That is how I propose to worship God. No self flagellation for me, how could that please Him ?
