Why Is The Land Of The Lost A Comedy?

I don’t consider movies based on TV shows “remakes” and I find some of these production attempts intriguing to say the least. But why take a beloved Sid and Marty Krofft children’s show and make it into a spoof? Wouldn’t this film have stood a better chance as a serious adventure movie?
Anyone who remembers this Saturday morning live action show remembers that it was cheaply produced but had great environmental conflicts with that Sid & Marty Krofft surrealism. This version seems offending and as unflattering as that attempt to recreate “Starsky and Hutch.” Hasn’t Hollywood learned that this approach never equals box office profits?

BONUS QUESTION: What other movies made from TV shows have you seen that you actually enjoyed?

Amen brother, this really ticks me off. I don't like Will Ferrell anyway so when I heard he was butchering one of my childhood favorites it made my blood boil.

BONUS ANSWER: Star Trek. :D

The show is incredibly campy in retrospect, so the idea that it would be remade as a comedy is no more surprising than when they did the same thing with The Brady Bunch.

I don't like Will Ferrell either!! i thought I was the only one... I know I've seen Land of the Lost episodes a very long time ago, but the only thing I remember about it is part of the theme song...

The idea of Will Ferrell in anything turns my stomach. And yes, so does the idea of making Land of the Lost a comedy. Add the two together and i can only say one word...BOMB.

You're certainly not the only one. Will Ferrell sucks donkey flop as an actor and he shouldn't be allowed in front of a camera. i have no idea how he has a career at all. Then again...I can say the same thing about Steven Seagal.

In some roles (not many, mind you) I actually like Will Ferrell. He's quite believeable as a passionate simpleton.
