Why isn't there Peace in the World?

There is no peace due to ignorance, greed, ego and desire. There can never be peace because of no end of ignorance, no end of greed, no end to ego and no end of desire.

LOL Perhaps I should rephrase the question. Why isn't the world much more peaceful than it is?
IMO, it stems from the "it is not my fault" attitude that society has:
"I am fat, I ate at Wendy's...It is WENDY'S fault!"

"No officer, I was drunk when I hit and killed those children in the crosswalk, it is the bartenders fault for letting me pay for the drinks"

"I lost everything do to gambling. Damn them cards!"

The lack of peace is fulfillment of prophecy. Satan is gaining control of people's hearts. We're in the last days.

I was wondering something similar just today.

I think that the ultimate reason is because it is not a priority for most people. To some people, other things are more important and violence is seen as an acceptable way of attaining those things.

Perhaps, the only cause of sustainable peace is a belief in the priority of pacifism?

On a more temporary basis, I think that security largely contributes to peace as well as empowerment and equality. Much of the violence in today's world is because people feel marginalized and powerless. They turn to violence because they feel like they have no other way to get what they want. Often, they are right.

And just how long are these "last days" supposed to last?
I wish I knew! We are supposed to prepare as if it were ending tomorrow. But I'm afraid it will get a lot worse. But the good news is, righteousness will ultimately prevail over evil. Thank goodness!

It need not get worse. Not if we are sufficiently righteous. I agree we are at a critical point (doesn't every point seem that way?) but we can pull through if we work together and desire it enough.

I was kind of serious; we don't notice peace because it's so, well, peaceful. But if you added it all up the world actually is a pretty peaceful place for most people, most of the time;

look at rabbits; if you come across a rabbit in the woods more likely than not you'll see him happily munching on leaves as if he didn't have a care in the world. Now, sure, that same rabbit probably spends at least part of his day dodging things that want to eat him, but those are events for him, they don't define his existence and if you added it all up at the end of the day it's almost certain he spent more time munching leaves in the woods (without a care in the world) then running from something.

So on balance, it was a pretty peaceful day.

Same thing goes for the predators; Owls spend a few moments every night (if they're lucky) tearing some poor critter to shreds, but the rest of the time, if you run into an owl, you'll most likely see him kicking back on a branch looking like a buddha with feathers.

It's the same for people.

Most people don't live in war zones.
People who do live in war zones aren't usually under attack at any given moment (attacks are events that sporatically punctuate an otherwise peaceful day).

So, cold as it sounds, if you added up all the moments that anyone anywhere in the world spent fighting and compared that with all the moments x all the other people in the world, on balance, the worlds a pretty peaceful place overall.

We just want it to be perfect, which it never can be (hence we deprive ourselves of peace).

Yes. Thank you. You have a wonderful attitude.

Reason, and reason again
Each response to this thread illustrates one of the core problems with warfare: disbelief in others. When asked if they could kill someone else for no good reason, almost everyone answers volumetrically no, but if you ask that same person if their neighbor would, it's usually a yes or maybe.

War, as a point of divergence with peace, is brought about (IMO) by the belief killing is the only way to protect your livelihood. Wars are fought between people in power who tell their followers or citizens that they risk losing their livelihood/possessions/food. In reality, a compromise will almost always enhance livelihood/possessions/food.

I'm not saying there aren't heterodox incidents, either.

There is no peace because for some reason a lot of people don't like or want to be around others who are not like them. There are too many people who hate people because of their religion, their race, their ethnic group, how light or dark they are, and other reasons. These hatreds cause the need for borders.
Wars are caused by governments, and we all know that governments are mostly corrupt.
Also, there is a love for power by too many people.
And if you look at what is at the movies, then you will notice that there are plenty of people who just happen to love violence.

I don't think that is legitimate reasoning. People living under the constant threat of violence, even when they are not dodging militias and lynch mobs, are not living in peace.

maybe it because of a lack of an empire ,maybe the most peaceful times are when most of us are under some kind of dominion like pax romana or pax britania. just a thought

There is no peace because "being" is predicated on struggle. Strife is the shadowy twin brother of the Ground of Being.

Do you really think that people throughout the centuries or millenia haven't thought the same thing? I'd be more inclined to believe that your proximity to this particular time period and your disconnect from the past heavily influences your negative view of the present. I'm sure people thought the same thing during the fall of Rome, and WWI and WWII, among many other times.
