Why no public fights in America?

I have a question...

Every week in Europe three or four stars are in a public, verbal war over a song. Song writers and music composers, the best ones, are rare and when they put out a song - singers from several countries usually bid for it.

Here's one example: http://www.radikal.com.tr/haber.php?haberno=195331

Helena Paparizou and Anna Vissi, two Greek singers as famous as Greece itself in Europe, both vied for a song by famous Turkish music composer Bilge Demir.

It was in the papers for a few days, verbal stabs back and forth "Why waste such a nice song on Anna Vissi?" etc...

In the end Bilge Demir gave it to her sister, Betul Demir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6dBGapJkPI

Why does this not happen in America? I know many of the famous artists don't write their own songs or music... are there different laws? What's the reason?

Probably because we have more song writers. As far as I know artists, like the pop queens who don't write thier material have no shortage of songs for thier albums. We don't have just one or two songwriters that write "the best" songs, it's a huge market and the songwriters churn out songs all the time.
Most people in the US don't even realize that a lot of artists don't write thier own material. Songwriters are a "behind the scenes" kind of profession here. We, unfortunately, give them very very little recognition. But, they get paid well.

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney fought for years over the rights to McCartney's songs.

Which is, in essence, a fight, albeit a "controlled" fight, fought through representatives. We like to clean it up a little and generate income at the same time, here. Where else can one bill for being in a fight?:ko:
(Maybe we should have a "shark" smiley...)

True, but I suspect that doesn't happen very much. I know that when an artist comes up with a tune they did not pen themselves it is a rather dark black mark against their effort in my books. Writing songs is not exactly all that hard a thing to do. (I am usually quite unimpressed by "remakes" of older songs and usually wonder why the so-called "artists" bothered as they have a tendency to murder the original. (No, I don't consider Brit'knee to be an "artist", as she is merely a singer, and not a very good one either.)

That's not really the same thing though. What she's talking about is more along the lines of Britney and Lindsay Lohan fighting over the rights to use a song written by a particular songwriter on thier album. The songwriters for pop artists like these just don't get enough media attention to warrant that kind of popularity and fighting. The famous songwriters are the ones who actually write the material for thier own bands, and they don't give those up easily.

Perhaps it's the plethora of talent in America - there's enough to go around.

OR...most of pop music in America sucks so there's nothing to fight over.

Personally, I prefer a singer to write their own material. There are a few exceptions though...Meatloaf for one. Jim Steinman writes all of his music. They've got like a partnership going on. Roger Daltrey also, but he's not American. There's no reason to fight over a song because there are so many written. Singers just find a writer they like and pay them for their songs.
