Why the authortian nanny state BS has got to stop. Grabbing a little kids lunch and tossing it away leaving him hungry.

So, I guess if we and the government care about other that this makes us a "nanny state". However, maybe some should read the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States.

And Yes, the Catholic Church has a long reputation of being really nice people...
Let me just say that over its nearly 2000 year history, not everything was done as Jesus would likely have wanted, and this might be the understatement of the century. I don't make excuses for the atrocities but we certainly ain't alone here, let me tell ya. As long as people run organizations, "stuff" will happen.

Hey, even the Twelve weren't even close to being perfect, eh?

Sorry, I guess I didn't come off ironic enough there...:( Not really trying to knock the church...but no, no one and no organization is perfect...but also, the church (and many other organizations and individuals) do try to make a positive impact...it sounds like the individual teacher was in need of...well...something...and the brief article made it at least sound like the diocese was trying...

Once again, the confiscation resumes by the autocratic education system.
Well you have presented an important warning, but it's not about "the autocratic education system", rather click-bait news sources.

It seems like a whole load of fraudulent sites took a relatively minor local story from a while ago and made up a whole load of extreme elements to create their click-bait headlines (Opinion | Plagiarized for fake news: Durham reporter's school lunch story turned rotten).

No worries, my friend.

I thought of the possibility. Still real incidents had happened that makes this story all too believable.

If it is not true, I'm very very happy to be wrong here, but still justifiably adamant of the encroachment of the authoritarianism that the nanny state brings to people wherever and whenever it's deployed, regardless of the party responsible.

Boy Left In Tears After Teacher Throws Away His Lunch, Says He Can Never Eat It At School

Really nice people, aren't they?

Well, unlike free speech and freedom of religion, there is no such thing as free lunch.

Do you think of it as a "nanny state" when it tells people who they can love and marry, whether their self-identity is acceptable or not, and tries to control women's private reproductive lives? Or are those things all good in your view?

Exactly. The opposition toward library books, LGBT rights, reproductive rights, cannabis legalization, the establishment clause of the amendment, etc. Is met with a shrug, yet a ban on plastic bags was met with outrage.

And I forgot to mention "what you (or your kids) can read." And when you bring up cannabis, I can't help but note that nobody is trying to get red-nosed legislators to stop drinking martinis. Odd that (or perhaps even conservatives are able to remember how dismally prohibition failed -- but then you'd think they'd understand why all other sorts of prohibition are equally likely to fare poorly).

I'll tell you what -- I don't think a lot of conservatives think rationally much of the time.

Being religious fundamentalists, their belief system requires them to forgo critical thinking.
The real oddballs are those who aren't religious fundamentalists or even religious at all yet back their theocratic agenda anyway. What place do they think they would have under such a system?

"Scandinavian-type socialism", which I largely adhere to, actually puts the welfare of all people first and foremost, and I certainly don't see that as being morally wrong. IMO, it's a much more moral approach that dog-eat-dog capitalism [laissez faire].
