I don't know if this has occured to anyone, but "evolution vs. creation" doesn't exist per say, unless you are talking about a fundamental interpretation of creation.

The ONLY reason this is so is because traditional creation stories say the world is only so many x thousand years old, where as SEVERAL scientific theories from evolution to virtually all of Astronomy and several other theories say certain things take millions or even BILLIONS of years to happen.

Evolution IS NOT A THEORY OF HOW LIFE CAME TO BE, IT IS A DESCRIPTION OF HOW LIFE BIOLOGICALLY CHANGES OVER TIME.

Astrogensis is the field of studying how life started, not evolution. The theory of evolution does NOT talk about how life originated, but rather how life, well, evolves over time.

So when we title thIS forum "evolution vs creation" we reinforce the idea that somehow evolution is a "creation theory" or "creation myth" or whatever the **** you want to call it. Well, it's not. Evolution is about a process of continual change, it is NOT about how life came to be. That's an entire other thing all-together.

Also Evolution isn't "just a theory". A theory isn't a guess, it's an explanation, that has evidence for it, of WHY something works. People talk about "crackpot theories" like they are hypothesis or conjecture.

An empirical law is an explanation of how something works and that is unquestioningly true in virtually all instances.

A law is something that explains HOW something works.

A theory explains WHY something works and that has observation or evidence to support it.

A hypothesis is an educated guess that hasn't been tested or observed.

Conjecture is a kind of 'free-thinking' brain storming.

Evolution says NOTHING about how life came to be. That is another question entirely. The only reason creationists jump out of their pants about is because it contradicts their holy books. But then again, so does a lot of current science.

EDIT: THE TITLE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE "WHY THE NAME OF THESE FORUMS HELP A MISCONCEPTION." MY BAD.

Sorry but creationism is not solely about the origin of life itself in its original form (which is what Abiogenesis covers). Creationism is also about the origin of the diversity of species that exist today and that is exactly what Evolution covers.

I guess I can give you that, but my point still stands that people assume that evolution talks about the origin of life.

Ya I kinda didn't think out this topic is was a spur of the moment thing lol

I've always wondered why. It creates such a needless divide, and makes it harder to educate people on it when the sign says its evolution competing against there personal beliefs.

Which forums are you talking about? This is the only one specifically concerned with evolution and creationism, and it's titled

"Evolution Vs. Creationism" Not "Evolution Vs. Creation"
