President Biden is considering having some student debt forgiven. He is considering student debt of less than $50,000 per student be forgiven by executive order. My daughter has approximately $20,000 in student debt that we'd like cancelled, such debt forgiveness will help many debtors financially get rid of our student loan debt thereby helping us pay off the cost of other soaring bills due to inflation. Please urge President Biden to forgive up to $20,000 for each student's loan debt.

" Forgive" now means, make somrone else pay it.

I cant vote in USA but I would never ever vote myself
a special deal. Vote for " free" money taken by force
from others.
I think its unconscienable and totally irresponsible.

Not a fan of debt forgiveness. Certainly not a blanket forgiveness.

I'd much prefer converting student debt to interest free debt. I would also prefer that minimum payment requirements reflect annual income. If you are scraping by on $20,000 a year, payment shouldn't be onerous.

My expectation is that you pay an appropriate amount until it's paid or you die, whichever comes first.

Lastly, there needs to be reform in the student loan industry.

And think of the suckers who worked to pay
for expenses...if only they'd just take on debt,
it would've all been for free.
Better it would be to just work with the debtors
to assist them in becoming productive enuf to
pay their debt.
What message does it send to students now?
Should they borrow with the expectation that
they'll never have to pay? Or is this largesse
only for those who borrowed in the past?

Would you reconsider student debt forgiveness paid by a levy on individual income in excess of a million dollars? Afterall, millionaires greatly benefit by having a better educated work force. Right?

Perhaps student debt forgive might send the message that there should also be tuition free college for our future generations of college students.

Just as there's no free lunch, there's no free college.
Someone would pay. And we should expect some
funding issues.
Hey, while we're at it....let's have free cars, free houses,
free food, free clothing, free vacations...

True, someone would have to pay for it. The question is, is it worth the investment to have taxpayers pay for a basic four year college education. I think that time has come.

I'd be against free-for-alls to practically everybody, because I doubt there'd be enough revenue from taxes on multi-millionaires and billionaires in order to fund free-for-alls to most anybody. Also, I would not want hyper inflation funding of such massive debt.

So you still want someone else to pay the
bill but now want shift the focus to me.

I'd like student debt forgiveness and tuition free college paid by billionaires and multibillionaires resulting in a better educated workforce servicing us all. :)

It is not really possible to change the past. I would like to see a basic four year education offered. At one time all schooling was private. Until we could see that education for everyone made the country more prosperous. I believe that extending the option of additional education to those that desire it should be an option. And this should apply to vocational schools too.

Student loans have gotten so egregious that we're talking about 17 year old kids being expected to sign up to pay for most of their adult lives just to become doctors or scientists.
No wonder the US is falling far behind replacing those retiring from the field.

$400 for a textbook thst could be printed
for 1% of that.
Higher education, cost like with, medicine in the USA is the product of corruption.

Make it all " free" and then see what it will
cost.

Like most Milquetoast centrists, Biden will only seriously consider canceling student debt if it's politically safe for him to do so. That he has outright said before during his campaign that it won't happen (and his legislative record which made it even harder), the fact that he's now even considering it highlights the change in public thought.

You can't pay for your college with two goats and clotted cream anymore. Lots of people functioning without inherited wealth won't see any social progression without intervention. And it's not just universities. We had years of major lawsuits against predatory tuition and lending in trade schools the last decade. As well as cooperation between legislators and for profit schools to increase licensing continuing education requirements, which requires students to pay even more even after they've graduated.

I think it would be worth the investment, but sometimes I wonder if standards have gotten too lax because of the idea that everyone should have a chance to go to college. A college degree just isn't worth what it was in the past.

And is the cost of college really worth it? If someone gets a four-year degree and all they can get is a job at Starbuck's, can they get their money back?

"We can guarantee higher education as a right for all and cancel all student debt for an estimated $2.2 trillion. To pay for this, we will impose a tax of a fraction of a percent on Wall Street speculators who nearly destroyed the economy a decade ago. This Wall Street speculation tax will raise $2.4 trillion over the next ten years. It works by placing a 0.5 percent tax on stock trades – 50 cents on every $100 of stock – a 0.1 percent fee on bond trades, and a 0.005 percent fee on derivative trades." -- Senator Bernie Sanders

I'm all for applying healthcare models like Canada has with caps on drug costs set by commission reviews to negate excess pricing before NHS agrees to buy, and applying the same standards to public school supplies.
