this is not really a debate as much as it is more of a rant. I am on facebook and just a bit ago I had this lady tell me I should not call myself a Christian and that God does not have a relationship with a sinner. All I did was tell her my own personally views. I am for women's right. I am for gay rights. I am for everyone's rights. I know what it is like to be judge at for being less then perfect and I will not do that to others. But cause of my own personally view I turned around and got told I can't be a Christian. Fine they win. I wont call myself that anymore. I call myself a born again now. Or a Jesus Freak. Christian has been used around so much now that it has lost it's meaning. So many call themselves that but go around and point fingers at others and then go home and sin themselves. I am not that type of believer. And never will be.

It seems almost like a badge of honor, to be a Christian who is told by other Christians that they don't deserve the title. A reversal of sorts.

Christians who don't like/have gave up on the title or label have been very prevalent on here since I've been a member. I think it is very damaging to the image of Christianity as a whole.

Still - on a case by case basis, I do sometimes feel for the people who get sick of very watered-down mockeries of whatever religion/tradition they are partial to or part of. Holier than thou types who never lead by example are always lame though :D

You have every right to call yourself christian. Being a christian in my view isnt determined by what rights you agree with. There are many christians like yourself that support gay rights while ironically there are gay christians who disagree with gay rights.

That doesnt define your relationship with christ. Only you and christ knows your relationship. Living in faith and action is Jesus life (action), death (repentence), and resurrection (born again), his passion is between you and god.

I mean. I disagree with my mother on a lot of things but that doesnt make me less of her daughter because of it.

Best advice I can really give steaming from my christian co worker does is if someone calls her ungodly things, she confirms her relationship with christ in the bible, find scripture that proves she is not as they say, pray, and apply.

Anyway. I know the OP is a rant. Just sayin.

Do you admire her intellect or wisdom? Is she someone whose opinions you've found to be valuable and on point? If not then why do you care what she thinks or says? Not everyone is worth our time. Got to pick your sources wisely or else you end up with all kinds of weird and wacky notions bending your ear. Stop caring, forget, and move on.

Yup.
It's pretty much par for the course as a Christian to be told that. Don't worry about it.
You don't need her approval anyway, and you shouldn't want it either.

Only God and you know whether you are a Christian or not. I'm reminded of Abraham Lincoln's statement about joining a church: When any church will inscribe over its altar the Savior's condensed statement of law and gospel: 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind, and love thy neighbor as thyself,' that church will I join with all my heart." Being a sinner does not enter into it - we all make mistakes and err, we all sin in one way or another.

I am glad that you and other believers get what I am saying. Thanks

Thank you guys. I just get ticket off with those types of peoplee

You're not alone. Some ex-Christian Heathens retain this sort of sentiment and direct it at other Heathens for similarly petty things.

Well, the term "Christian" started life as a derogatory insult...

Jesus was for ALL , even faced with a crowd of 5000 was no discrimination.
Jesus is for none , he never took sides roman or Jewish remained neutral.
Jesus can not be forced on any one - even in face of death Crucifixion , the son of god never forced anything on anyone

So whoever says , you can not be
Is very very wrong
Can find lots of examples if you look .
The character of Jesus , easy for me lol I also have character of Satan , I do know how it feels .
Satan remains subdued every time he gets his creepy lil fingers out , Jesus slams that box.

Amen. We all have that good and bad side to us. One reason why I won't judge people. I can't judge people when I have sinned all the time myself

No is wrong to judge on slight variations within this context if the end result be the same .
In truth those that condemn , do it because they scared to be alone , and see thier own failings.
imho they try burden you with there own guilt.
Politely tell them to jog on

I think they do it cause it is easier for them to point out the sin in others then to fix them selves
