Will The Democrats Screw It Up Again?

Most people expect the Dems to win big in the coming elections. But the Dems are very good at screwing things up. So, how will they screw things up this time around? And will it cost them the election?

Well, if Hillary wins the Democratic Primary, I think that could screw it up for them. A lot of on the fence Independent/Republicans can't stand her, and would probably show up to vote just to vote against her. They usually don't state a reason why for some crazy reason . For me, it's the way she reacted during 9-11 when Bush was addressing the nation. She didn't applaud when everyone else was, and kept rolling her eyes when others applauded. That's just something I noticed personally when watching the speech, and thought it was very immature of her during that crisis.

I think another thing that could screw it up for them is if John McCain wins the Republican primary. I have some democratic friends that would vote republican if he was in the running and who knows how many others might do the same thing. He seems to have something to offer both parties (more like an independent rather than Republican).

Just some thoughts. I'm probably off my rocker. Hopefully whoever's elected will bring about some change, help our economy, and get us out of Iraq.

We have a tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot.

One of the biggest mistakes of Duke in 1988 and Kerry in 2004 was not fighting back. If we do that, we're history.

Fortunately we win in the long run and are more effective in opposition.

As Gary allen said "Liberalism is always getting more liberal and conservatism is always getting less conservative."

I think the Dems biggest screw up is found in your very first sentence.

John McCain used to be a viable candidate for independents, until George Bush made him his bit*h. Now McCain is just Bush light. If you don't believe me, check McCain's proposed solutions for almost every issue, and all you'll hear is the echo of George Bush's stupidity. And by the time the general election comes around, everyone will see this clear as day, because the democrats finally have some candidates who can speak english, and who will point this out very clearly to the nation.

The reason the democrats failed so miserably in the last two elections, even against such a moron as George Bush, is because both Gore and Kerry were pathologically incapable of forming a coherent sentence. Thus, neither of them were capable of clearly pointing out that George Bush was both out of his mind, and as stupid as a box of rocks. By the second election I was so disgusted with the democratic party for running these mumbly-mouth do-nothings that I wanted them to lose. They deserved it for running such poor excuses for candidates twice in a row.

Not so this time. Both Hillary and Barrack will eat McCain alive in an open debate. And the rest of the republican candidates are even more pathetic examples of that same old Bush-republican idiocracy. I believe the republican party is going to get the pasting they so richly have earned, and not just in the presidential election, but in the congressional and senate elections that follow. Republicans are going to pay for backing Bush, because a lot of americans are truly pi**ed off at them for it.

Mean politics. It's not that the Dems shot themselves in the foot, it's just that they play fair. Unfortunately, no one holds the Republicans to the same rules. Maybe we should take a page from their book and run smear campaigns and then deny it all. Maybe we could invent stories about how McCain wrote love letters to Jane Fonda from the Hotel Hanoi. It would be no more of a flight of fancy as the Swift Boat Veterans did to Kerry.

But, we just don't play that dirty. We don't cheat like the Republicans and we would ruin ourselves if we stooped to their level of mean spiritedness.

I've always felt that Obama was Kerry 2.0 ever since he spoke at the 04 DNC. Perhaps he'll win more votes than Kerry did this time around, but I want to see some actual policies this time!

(And please don't elect Edwards your attorney general if you win)

There was NOTHING wrong with Kerry, especially when you consider that Shrub was the other choice.

The Democrats would screw up a free lunch.

However, we can talk forever about the Democrats' strategic errors, but only an idiot would forget the sheer crookedness of the Republicans. It took tens of millions of fools and scoundrels working together to put George Bush in the White House for eight years, and it will take tens of millions of fools and scoundrels working together to put a Republican in the White House next January. I hate to see my country toppling over a cliff, but honestly, we get the government we deserve. In November, we'll see if we've learned anything yet or not.

Oh brother. Admit it, the only reason anyone voted for Kerry was that they didn't want Bush. What exactly was GOOD about Kerry, besides a lack of an opinion about anything?

Well, you bought into the whole anti-Kerry campaign. Was it the illogic of the Swift Boat Veterans that helped you see the light?

But really, in ANY election you are comparing one candidate to the other: OF COURSE HE WASN'T SHRUB! That's as good a reason as any to vote for him. Here we had a choice between HONOR and EVIL, and you apparently bought into the hype of evil??? Too bad that.

We get screwed when we let a slight pass. We get screwed when we don't challenge electoral irregularities. We get screwed when we don't challenge scurrilous and libelous attacks.
Then, knowing the historical consequences of politely letting things pass, and determined not to repeat these mistakes, Clinton and Obama turn on each other.

What will be funny is the garbage that will be put out: McCain and Obama are Manchurian Candidates, Clinton is lesbian nazi, and Romney and all Mormons are satanists. What is unfortunate is many believe such things, often basing it an things heard from a friend of a friend.

First we make them cavort for our votes, and then we criticize them for campaigning? I’m sorry, but regardless of who is elected, most of the people who vote for him/her and all of the people who don’t vote for him/her will hate him/her in the end. Call it the nature of the White House Beast.

The problem with democracy is that most people are idiots. Unfortunately, nobody's come up with a better system yet.

Maybe I need to update my view but the problem I felt the Democrats had over the years is that it is such a large umbrella for so many different groups. Where the Republicans keep putting forth in my opinion the same candidate one year after the next appealing to one large base the Democrats have to jockey all these different groups and if they cannot offer specialized ideas to one of those groups that group will jump ship to the Republican candidate.

I know anti-war Dem's who will just as likely go Republican if Hillary takes the nomination, for example. Sometimes I wonder if we wouldn't be better off if we just turned the election process back over to the Senate and saved ourselves the nausea of the popular election.

No, we don't need that. Maybe. I'm being cynical.

Anybody like pie?

edit: I must have scrolled across MB's avatar a dozen times before really noticing it. Hilarious!

Thanks for the info. Still trying to formulate my opinion on all of the candidates ;). I'm kind of an Independent, but have leaned towards Republican in the past, even though I regret that with Bush. All I'm saying is that I would consider voting for Barrack, but would probably not with Hillary. As I said, from what I saw, Hillary was very immature during 9/11 when the country needed leaders and supporters instead of someone who was scoffing at the Presidents speech (If I was the most staunch Republican, I still would have supported a Democratic president during 9/11).

Can't brain. Has dumb.
What strikes me is the "us and them" mentality of the voters, the "republican voters" vs "democrat voters". I find it so strange that a person is a "part" of a political party and that they don't much change. That people vote for the party they have always voted for, simply because they always have.... I mean - you just don't see that here in NZ. At least, not to the extent as the U.S does
