Buffalo shooting puts spotlight on GOP and Great Replacement Theory
It is time now for everyone to clearly and publicly denounce this dangerous rhetoric. Some of you may feel this is obvious and should “go without saying”, but the time for that is over. Some may not understand, it is time to get educated. Some of you might just want to be obstinate because you think this is “political”, the time for that nonsense is over.
Please vote in the poll.
Of course, I condemn it without reservation. But as noted by some posters, that may not be enough, in and of itself.
I've heard it said that the best way to fight an idea is with another idea. I think we were heading in the right direction when the Civil Rights Movement was in full swing, but I think where things started to go awry was around the late 80s/early 90s when the narrative started to change.
I mentioned in another thread earlier this morning that one of the early promoters of white nationalism back in those days was Geraldo Rivera. Once the racists made the talk show circuit, which was ostensibly to ridicule, mock, and make them look like a bunch of circus freaks, that's when we started heading in the wrong direction, which has brought us to where we are now. I knew then that it would eventually come to no good.
I saw it in the 1990s, with Ruby Ridge and the OKC bombing, the rise of the militia movement which is still around today. They also took to the internet. Around the same time, I attended a conference where they showed a short film called "The Color of Fear," which showed some men of different races discussing race, which I thought was quite moving and eye-opening for me at the time. At the time, I thought that if we could have more of these kinds of discussions in society, we might be able to head back in a more positive direction.
I tried to look for it, to see if I could find it posted somewhere, but it seems it's only available through this site:
The Color of Fear (Part 1) (diversitytrainingfilms.com)
But of course, they can't just post it. Someone has to make money from it ($15 for a 24-hour rental), which sort of reveals where a large part of problem has been.
