I made peace with it... It has fewer benefits over 7 or Linux, but Xbox, MS Store and DX12 are nice.

I installed "Classic Shell" a program that skins the start menu and start button to look like Windows 7, it made an incredible difference....

Use this for your start button,

It's legit, helps me bare with the ugly GUI. I don't know what's wrong with M$ with this metro shell and no classic shell for business. It's just plain unsightly.

Cortana means well, her voice does sound rather friendly. One of my goals is to make these companions smarter. I've managed, somewhat, shes a work in progress.

I was forced onto windows 10 almost immediately, plus I have to use a Mac on top of that. For work, I don't have much of a choice kinda like your spontaneous upgrade lol.
Hehe. I had Cortana as disabled as possible within 10 minutes of hitting the desktop of Windows 10. Personally, it seems like a very stable platform. I have only one minor issue, but its more of an annoyance that a serious problem.

@Whiterain Yep, I've been a fan of classic shell for several years. Since it was already installed it was running the moment 10 booted up. :)

I dug some old computer parts and an nVidia 7300GS from my junk and managed to build a full computer (case only) and installed trial Windows 10 on it to see if it works well. Unbelievable, it worked smoothly on that Core 2 Duo and 2GB RAM! But I'm not here to compliment Win10 really. I found that the 7300GS support got discontinued so Win10 does not support it anymore. Win8.1 was the last to support it. This is really bad.

With updated parts tho, the only problem I face with Win10 is the stupid forced auto updated. Can't turn it off anymore.

The latest "anniversary" update made it harder to get rid of bloatware and I think broke every single third-party anti-virus product, at least the business versions. They decided you HAD to have a lock screen whether you wanted one or not. Is suspect that soon there will be a mandatory scroll of ads across your screen unless you pay the bribe (fee) they demand which will of course start low and increase year-by-year.

Weird, no lock screen for me on my Anny Update here. But I use Windows Defender for protection only, so dunno.

I'm surprised to hear this. NVIDIA releases drivers that should support all its graphics cards. Have you tried updating the NVIDIA driver?

That surprises me too. I tried every possible way I know of, including all official ways, and they all failed. Even NVIDIA's drivers excluded that series in their description while back. Last support was on ~309.xxx drivers and only up to Win8.1. I don't have a license for that, so I ended up with a Win7 32-bit (that build has only 2GB RAM). I guess they want to force people to buy newer cards instead of letting a +10 year old card hurt their economy half a dollar. The other 8800GTS 320MB worked fine in another build.

Old top end cards that are still more than useable and end up as junk, it's a waste. Same with software. What people both selling and buying seem to like is clunky unfinished products with lots of the latest candy.
