That applies to you to, you know. Yeah I've heard the whole "That's old news" bit. Really they probably have done it back then but are more blatantly obvious about it. But I guess a kooky conspiracy theorist would believe that.

My notebook is a Dell Latitude 2100 that uses Linux. It's an abomination.

They're annoying.) Or you could, you know, just go into the settings panel yourself and decide what you want turned off or on and stop being frightened by dumb scaremongering articles.

Lol. Not my fault you don't know how to use computers. Most of the privacy settings have to do with personalized advertising (turn 'em off if you want), sending data to Cortana so she works better with you and allowing programs to access stuff like your user info, location, email, mic, cam, etc. (so that the mail, chat, weather, etc. apps can, you know, actually work). You can just turn off the update sharing feature, too. Oh, how evil!

Oh, and I've never had Windows 10 uninstall programs without my permission. I don't use Windows Defender, either (I use Bitdefender for my security stuff, personally).

I will say that I think Windows 10 is superior to Windows 7 and 8.1 (Windows 8.1 is a damn eyesore, and even 7 is ugly compared to 10, imo).

We ain't getting there, dude, we've been there for a while. Though it's several Big Brothers, not just one. Google and Facebook, for example, use your data all the time for the sake of targeted ads, among several other violations of basic privacy.

Though I'm not going to use Windows 10 because apparently there's a bunch of games that don't work on it. I've never upgraded from 7 (granted my computer broke a while ago, but it had 7 on it, and when I get a new computer, so will it, alongside Linux Mint.)

No we're not quite there fully. There's elements of big brother, but today is not 1984 or even Brave New World. It's getting close to either one of those realities. But I have yet to wonder why people know what's going on and are apathetic about it.

Yeah. I mean the USO just feels a need to take what they can. I recall someone saying that during the Cold War we blasted "freedom" but now that it's over we do not feel a need to do that.

When I first picked windows back up (10) I thought it was really ugly, then I looked back on win7 and didn't mind so much.

Lol. I used to love Windows 7 a lot, but I'm taken with the "flat" look of Windows 10.

As an operating system, Windows and Apple cannot compete with Linux. It is so far advanced, so far superior, and just so much better that it really is in a league all of its own, floating way high above the rubbish of Windows and the pretty aesthetics of Apple. You can make Linux into whatever you want, make it function how you want, make it look how you want, and it's extremely unlikely you'll ever catch a virus on it. Linux does tend to be hit-and-miss with compatibility, but this is both a powerful advantage, as it simply does not have the x32/x64 bit system limitations and restrictions of Windows (which is a godsend if you're using old programs or any sort of modifications on any device), which means you can use even dated software and peripherals that Windows and Apple flat-out refuse to run, but there are some you may not be able to use at all, not without adding programs, functions, fonts, and other things necessary to get the program running. And even then sometimes it's just a no-go. But, overall, Linux is so far superior that it makes me wonder how anyone could favor Windows or Mac.

I am currently running MS Windows 10 on the laptop from which I am typing this response. I do not go even one day, without complaining about the response. Also installed as part of the "package" was the new browser call the Edge. It is horrible and definitely something going on in the background. So I use the Chrome browser and Firefox. But since going to version 10, it really doesn't matter which browser I use, there is constant clocking now and there is no question that some programs are running in the background doing things as I try to use the internet. Probably data mining is going on. This was a problem in previous versions, but now it has become horrible, horrible is the only word for it.

For example, I am on this forum right now, and every few seconds things like "stop" or so much crap running in the background, everything just slows down - I am finding this on all sites, not just this forum, and yes I know this forum has a lot of ads and junk that is annoying that loads and I hate that, but this is much worse now and I think is independent of the ads and background stuff from "sponsors" of the forum.

I do not have any virus, I run Norten AV and Norten Internet Security and run regular scans and updates daily, it is not a virus.

I can say, Windows 10 response is annoying if that is the word for it.

I have multiple computers, and I have an Apple as well but that one I currently have shutdown (I gave it to my daughter as a gift, but now it is outdated), the deal is I really don't like the Apple desktop, I started off in the Unix world inclusive of Linux/Unixware/BSD/System V etc and several versions of Linux including the very early ones such as Slackware and the first DOS based loader LINLOAD that lauches Linux, I have Red Hat, I have servers as well (ProLiant) with Windows 2008 in my home, I run VMware ESX (which is actually a proprietary version of a Linux based system that runs on top of Windows) and VMware Desktop, I have run the various version of Apple OS, on and on, and I have never seen such poor response as on Windows 10, there is definite snooping or data mining going on. In fact, it just "stopped/clocked" for a 2 seconds just now as I try to type.

So that is why probably 90% of the time I use my Smartphone when reading or responding to the RF forums, the response is much better than this Laptop (an HP). I suppose I could use the Windows 8.1 desktop in another room but I am lazy and am watching cable right now on the boob tube so the laptop is convenient to have while watching TV in the living room.

To tell the truth, UNIX/LINUX cadre has been, is, and probably will be into the future, the best OS to use, better than Apple.

There are people fighting. But the problem is, not enough people are. There's just enough to keep them at bay for a little, until they sneak in their little laws through distraction or deception and pretty soon they end up taking over before the people even notice until it's too late. And many are uninformed about what's really going on. Some really think everything is going swell. I think some deep down wouldn't mind being a slave. There's a benefit for that. You don't have to make decisions. You'd be surprised on how many people would find it comforting for a monolithic government to watch over them and tell them what to do. Kinda creepy really.

But we all need to keep doing something, When good people do nothing, bad things happen. Lots of bad things wouldn't happen if good people intervened more often.
