World Hindu Congress

The second World Hindu Congress just finished. It celebrated Vivekenanda's historic speech in Chicago, and had some 3400 delegates from 60 countries.

Tough task, this, given our diversity, but most reports say a lot of progress was made on things like supporting each other, organising amongst groups for charity efforts, and much much more. Nest time is 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand. Here's an article. There are others.

The success of World Hindu Congress shows Hindu unity is a reality. Anti-Hindu forces can go eat crow

Lol I misread the article title as "anti Hindus can go eat cow" and was confused as to whether that was good self deprecating word play or an embarrassing typo.

Makes me wonder which organisations were present at the World Hindu Congress 2018.

The congress is being organized at the Hotel Westin, in Lombard, Illinois by the World Hindu Foundation, a nonprofit created in 2012 and incorporated last year. The organizers said they expect as many as 2,000 delegates from 80 countries.

The congress recognized four organizations for their outstanding contributions to spreading Hindu philosophy: The Bochasanwasi Aksharpurshottam Swaminrayan Sanstha (BAPS) was honored for its “extreme visual idealism” seen in its architecturally beautiful mandirs; Chinmaya Mission for explaining the essence of the Gita; Geeta Press, Gorakhpur for making sacred Hindu literature easily accessible; and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness for spreading the message of Gita.

The Chairman of the World Hindu Congress 2018, S.P. Kothari, said he and many speakers attending the conference received calls and petitions from organizations and individuals to withdraw from the Congress on the ground WHC or some of its organizers are “socially and religiously divisive.”

Hindus are becoming more politically active on an international scale yes. It helps in battling the abuse of human rights, discrimination, responding to disasters, and combating the spreading of great misinformation about our religion.

The anti-Hindu protests are about what some folks liken to ideas like the Taliban, or ISIS. Basically it`s racially motivated, with a lack of any real understanding. If that were actually the case, the fears would be valid. But it`s not, of course. It stems from a total misunderstanding of what Hinduism stands for, and the balanced press who attended the event responded accordingly, heaping praise on the event as a harbringer of change for the betterment of this planet.

My first prize would go to Gita Press, Gorakhpur, the second to Chinmaya Mission and the third to ISKCON. Politics and economics are part of life. Mohan Bhagawat (RSS), Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadanvis and Sambit Patra (BJP) are important to Hinduism in India. Whether Gabbard joined it or not is immaterial to me, to Hinduism and to India. She must have had her compulsions. Do you think those who opposed the meet did not have any ulterior agendas?

I think what impressed me the most was the sheer number of delegates. A whole lot of people from many diverse sects, and walks of life. It's encouraging.

What is sometimes discouraging, though, about these things is the all talk no action problem. Some real positive things can happen, but implementing resolutions can be challenging. So if nothing really comes of it, then it's just another 'let's get together and pat ourselves on the collective back', then go home, Time will tell.

Strife between the upper castes and lower castes is increasing in India, and hence the reasons for these protests.

Unless casteism is eradicated from hinduism and equality and fraternity established amongst Hindus, unity amongst Hindus will only be a pipe dream.

Of you want to start a debate, please start another thread in the appropriate forum.
Hindus are uniting as we speak against casteism.
