Would a good god allow the Coronavirus?

Never said it did. Only pointed out that that’s a common thread in religious stories
What’s the common thread? That good people are killed by God, too? That is subjective. It would depend on what parameters you use to define good.
I think, in this permissive day and age, what constitutes a ‘good’ person is becoming less and less strict.

(Maybe “good” isn’t the right word…. I don’t know. It’s late, good night.)

Well “good” is perhaps too strong a word. That does indeed differ and can carry different connotations within different societies and religious beliefs. I used it more for brevity than anything else

Good night

Could you point out anywhere in this thread where anyone has dissed the Christian God?

No, but I have not read every comment.
"I don't say I know why it has to be this way and I don't know why people think that they know that a God who is good would not allow it to happen.
For me it's a matter of humility before God and not a matter of using suffering as a reason to diss God."
This is what I said however and the 2 sentences together show why I mentioned dissing God, and it was not against what you or anyone else said in this thread.

Alex. "In order to assert that there is a God who is supervising this, then it must follow that there is morally sufficient reason for it to occur"

The Bishop could not give a convincing answer IMHO.
IMHO I don't think either one had a clue as to what God's permission of suffering accomplishes.

You have to go back to the beginning and ask why we are in this situation at all, given the fact that God gave the humans such a great start. When satan and the humans defected from their Creator in the belief that doing things their way was better, how wise of God to step back and let them. So how are we going with that?

Every ounce of human suffering on this earth is caused by satanically inspired man, not God. (1 John 5:19)

Why would a Christian pray for someone infected by gods will?

Christians, in general, don't like seeing people suffering, and even if some thought it was because of the will of God, most would want God to be merciful I hope.

On the contrary I think there are some Christians who revel in the idea of suffering, Mother Terresa was probably the best example.

“There is something beautiful in seeing the poor accept their lot, to suffer it like Christ's Passion,” Mother Teresa said. “The world gains much from their suffering.

And remember she was made a saint by the largest group of Christians in the World

1 John 5 19…
1 John 5:19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

&

James 1:13
Weymouth New Testament
Let no one say when passing through trial, "My temptation is from God;" for God is incapable of being tempted to do evil, and He Himself tempts no one.

&

Galatians 6:7…
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.
IMO, people bring some situations on themselves and, unfortunately, on others, either unwittingly or on purpose.

Example: residents of an unkempt & filthy house, usually end up getting sick more often.

The Whore of Babylon, according to Revelation 17:18 is the country that attacked Iraq.

The Whore can’t be the US, because one of the Harlot’s descriptions is that ‘the blood of all those murdered on the earth was found in her.’ — Revelation 18:24.

Millions had been murdered way before the US began existing!

Why would a good God permit suffering if not to achieve a greater good.

That is quite profound!

God has allowed evil things, because we read in Genesis 3, Adam&Eve chose to disregard God’s instructions. By doing so, they chose independence from God’s rulership over them. So God has allowed man to rule himself, and except for the Flood and protecting the Israelites (through whom mankind’s Messiah would come), God has stayed out of human affairs…. Letting the issue of Sovereignty, ie., whether mankind can successfully rule themselves or not, be settled once for all time.

And the future world to come, under God’s Kingdom rule, will bring blessings as those described at Revelation 21:3-4

Take care, my cousin.

That sounds like a pretty monstrous misunderstanding of what Mother Theresa said.

Ok explain what she meant then.

“There is something beautiful in seeing the poor accept their lot, to suffer it like Christ's Passion,” Mother Teresa said. The world gains much from their suffering.

I think you should be able to understand it better if you realise that she did not say "there is something beautiful in the seeing the poor suffer".

Could you just explain what she meant by it?

Maybe that that the acceptance by the poor of their suffering gives a lot to the world.
Mother Theresa was one for seeing the divine in all humanity and for helping the suffering to die with dignity and could see the Christ like quality in them as they accepted their suffering the way Christ accepted His.

Do you think seeing someone suffer can be beautiful?

No.
Do you think she said that seeing someone suffering was beautiful?
I thought she said that there was something beautiful in seeing the way the poor accepted their suffering like Christ accepted His suffering.
