Would Dietrich Bonhoeffer say the kid who tried to kill Donald Turmp is a hero?

A respected German theologian named Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote The Cost of Discipleship, which focused on the difference between what he called “cheap grace” and the real thing. Bonhoeffer was attributed with saying, “Silence in the face of evil itself is evil, God will not hold us guiltless.” Bonhoeffer and other men tried to kill Adolph Hitler and were caught and that was the end of them. What if the kid who tried to kill Trump is viewed in that context? Consider photos of the audience at the assassination attempt, MAGA rallies and the January 6, 2021 coup attempt reveal aryan gatherings. Consider Trump has spoken favorably of Adolph Hitler, and when he was married to Ivana, he studied a book of Hitler’s speeches.

It would require knowing what motivated the shooter, and it looks like no one will ever know. Was it hatred of Trumpism? Was it the fact that his parents did a crappy job? Was he trying to Mark David Chapman his way into the history books? No one knows.
I read in news reports that the kid’s passion was politics, he was the only Republican in his high school class of liberals. he challenged a hispanic schoolmate, who was pro-Trump in 2016. So, the kid was against Trump that far back. And, I read news reports that the kid was a Republican, and he donated $15 to Biden’s PAC on the day Biden was sworn in as president, about 2 weeks after Trump tried the coup. If you also factor in the kid knew of Trump’s admiration of Adolph Hitler, and when Trump was married to Ivana, he studied a book of Hitler’s. And if you also factor in photos and film clips of MAGA rallies and the January 6 coup attempt and the audience at the assassination attempt reveal mobs of white people. And, if you also factor in the kid knew President Biden had told a lot of wealthy Democrat donors that Trump needed put in a bullseye, and every person who ever knows a gun knows what that means.

it would certainly be possible that a Republican
would oppose Trump. After all, it was Trump's
own VP who called him "America's Hitler".
Of course, now he sucks up to Trump.

I have read his bio years ago and while he was quite the hero in resisting the Nazis, I am not sure it is accurate to say that he (Bonhoeffer) tried to kill Hitler, though he was intimately known to those in the plot.

Yes, J.D. Vance did that, and the kid who tried to kill Trump did not, so is the kid a hero, and did Vance sell his soul?

from Wikipedia
Dietrich Bonhoeffer (German: [ˈdiːtʁɪçˈbɔnhøːfɐ] ; 4 February 1906 – 9 April 1945) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian and anti-Nazi dissident who was a key founding member of the Confessing Church. His writings on Christianity's role in the secular world have become widely influential; his 1937 book The Cost of Discipleship is described as a modern classic.[1] Apart from his theological writings, Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Adolf Hitler's euthanasiaprogram and genocidal persecution of the Jews.[2] He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo and imprisoned at Tegel Prison for 1½ years. Later, he was transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp.

Bonhoeffer was accused of being associated with the 20 July plot to assassinate Hitler and was tried along with other accused plotters, including former members of the Abwehr (the German Military Intelligence Office). He was hanged on 9 April 1945 during the collapse of the Nazi regime.

Well, the movie version isn’t supported very clearly by the known facts of Bonhoeffer’s involvement in any actual assassination plot. Whatever his real involvement might have been, topping Trump at this stage would hardly be an equivalent move. I mean, you can speculate about where MAGA world might end up, but it’s still a long way from any worst-case scenario like starting an actual war and carrying out genocide. Those are pretty improbable outcomes, I think. More likely is something like an overblown frat party with a load of rich people taking whatever they can get, leading temporarily to a rising tide that some will benefit from, til it all recedes and there’s nothing left but a mess to clear up. Or, it could somehow turn out to be a boom time for renewable energy and new tech. MAGAs will demand some persecution of people they don’t like, of course, but it doesn’t seem likely that would lead to anything approaching genocide.

Right. But again, to say he was somehow personally involved in the assignation attempt is not accurate. That is, just because he was involved in the resistance does not mean he supported murder. He was, though, a great man no doubt.

If you do not see the similarity between Trump and his MAGAs and Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party leading up to WWII, then perhaps you should spend time talking to MAGAs, like I do, and perhaps you should stuffy up on Trump’s affection for Hitler and that when he was married to Ivana he studied a book of Hitler’s speeches, and perhaps you should look at photos of the Jan 6 coup attempt and MAGA rallies and the audience at the assassination attempt, see the participants re Aryan, and perhaps you should consider Trump means everything he says about saving America from the evil Democrats and his Aryan base believe every word he says to them, and you are seeing happen in America similar to Germany leading up to World War II, and if Trump loses in November, he and his MAGAs will not peacefully into the night.

If I had to hazard a wild a** guess, I’d say about half of Americans. But as I also said, they won’t admit it, fearing retaliation, You remember in 2016, when polls showed Clinton was going to win, and lots of people did not want to tell pollsters how they really felt about Trump? The liked him?

Similarity in mindset is one thing, the situation is another. And there are questions of degree. If you’re talking about a scenario where Trump loses then sure, there’ll be violence, but I took your post to mean a scenario in which Trump wins. It’s possible his winning might lead to an increasingly hostile environment, a playground for his narcissism if you like, but Germany in the 1930s was far more primed for Hitler than the US is for a genocidal dictator, whatever MAGAs might like to talk about. MAGAs don’t want an expansionist war, they want their version of America made real.

Clinton did win the popular vote by around three million.
Aren't the people choices/picks what the polls use for their data?

It would be wrong to view that sort of thing as heroic, even when viewed in it's best light. It's like considering engaging on warfare a good and heroic act. Warfare may sometimes be necessary. And it may take great courage to engage in it. But it is a fundamentally and existentially destructive act. And such activity should never be celebrated or held up as a positive ideal. Because it isn't.

That entry in Wikipedia is correct. My point, though, is that being charged for something by the Nazis is not the same thing as being guilty of such a charge. He was a known associate/friend of some of the people involved in the plot. That was enough to condemn him, in their eyes.
