Would you consider Christianity slavery?

I know right. Do not get me wrong when I say that I do not believe in Christianity but there are ministers I respect and can disagree with at the same time. Joel Osteen is somebody I can respect even if I do not think he has any understanding in theology . . . at all. I can even respect Catholic and Orthodox clergy like Sister Vassa Larin and Bishop Robert Barron but at the end of the day if you have no meaningful outlook on life then anything seeping from your lips is necrotic and poisonous to society.

This is also wyhy I become overly skeptical of non-denominational churches as it has been used as an excuse for the issue of consistency. It is often a message to the world that hides your lack of principles in religion, be it theological, ethical or philosophical.

But also thanks for the link, it is actually pretty interesting and I am really interesting in doing a one on one debate with a Christian. @1robin does not seem to post here much anymore which is a bummer :(
I wonder what happened to @1robin. I have also noticed he doesn't post as much, but then I have periods where I don't either. I don't know if I'm up to one on one debates, but just out of curiosity, what is the subject you were interested in debating with @1robin?

Me and him did a lengthy and seemingly ridiculous back and forth about the notion of a god and oneness. I wanted to continue that 3 or 4 year old debate about monotheism vs polytheism. @1robin was just a tough cookie and new how to debate his position against me and I have always considered the man my equal in every regard.

Essentially I wanted to pick a trinitarian Christian to debate with or maybe a Muslim at the end of the day :D.

Would you consider Christianity slavery?

I mean, I'm an atheist, and I consider it slavery, since there are so many restrictions in the Christian bible; no offense to Christians or anything, this is just my own opinion on the matter.

What's your opinion on the subject?
It depends on your definitlon of slavery...

Well, you can drop out of school when you become legal age, and you can quit your job too, but when it comes
to Christianity, it is a bit different.

You see, it may not be physical slavery (i.e. chains, locks, cages, etc); however, it is mental slavery when you think about it. I mean, if you have been a Christian for many years and decided to give up on Christianity, then what about your fear for hell or any of that stuff, I mean, wouldn't that scare you right back into Christianity?

Most people 'give up' on Christianity as a result of believing it lacks veracity. Why would they then be scared of hell?

I believe it is voluntary slavery. We don't call Jesus Lord and Master for nothing. However a Christian is not required to be a slave of the Bible.

Well, what about kids (specifically pre-teens)? How can they have much of a say in what they believe in, since at that point in your life, you pretty much go along with what your parents tell you to do?

I believe by age thirteen I was forming my own philosophy and beliefs but there is no doubt I had to unlearn a few things taught by my parents that were not good for me.

Error post 5477779,
Allow me, please to make a few points.
In the first place, a
Adam and Eve lost for us all, everlasting life on a paradise Earth.
God never meant for mankind to die, but when they rebelled against Him they started to die, from the imperfection that was caused in their bodies, because of their sin.
God did not want all their offspring to have no hope, so God sent His son to earth to give his life so that all would have a chance to gain back what Adam lost. This means that God loves the world of people and wants only the best for all peopleJohn 3:16.
Now, there might seem to be a lot of restrictions, BUT these restrictions are like a fence, not to keep you from doing good things, but to protect people, who do not know what to do, at times, Jeremiah 10:23.
The Almighty God does not need laws, and He does not make laws, just because He can, but they are for our own good, Deuteronomy 10:12,13, Psalms 25:4,5,8-13, 32:8-10, Isaiah 48:17,18.
God is going to turn this planet into a paradise, but if people will not obey what is best for their own self, and want to fight against God, how can a paradise happen.
God knows everything, so He knows the very best way for you to live, not only now, but forever. If He allowed you to go the way that seems best to you, you would soon run into trouble, so God advises what is best for the long run. God wants the best for you and He knows that you cannot chose the right course every time, so He is there to help you, Psalms 119:105.
So all the restrictions are really not to keep you from being happy, because God is a loving Father, and He doesn’t want harm to come to you, but the restrictions are to keep bad things from harming you!!!

Sorry that it's been awhile since I posted on this thread; it's because I have been kinda busy in my personal life.

Anyways, here's my response to Faithofchristian's statement:

Maybe you should give some, I don't know of any restrictions.

Even though I don't consider all of the seven deadly sins restrictions, I still
consider some of them restrictions.

Like this one for example:

* Lust: is an uncontrollable passion or longing, especially for sexual desires.

Now, how can you find a non-platonic partner to marry if you cannot lust? I mean, it seems like a
restriction and a contradiction, since the Christian bible does not have any aversion to marriage (or at least different sex marriage).

There are also some other restrictions in the Christian bible besides the seven deadly sins.

Like this one:

Matthew 5:44

"But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"

Okay, how is it cogent to "love your enemies"? That seems like a paradox when you think
about it because of how contradictory that statement is. I mean, if you love your enemies,
then you cannot win the battle against them (whatever it may be), since you don't have any
abhorred feelings towards the enemy or enemies, and thus leaving you vulnerable to attack and/or defeat.

Therefore, it is technically impossible to win a battle while feeling non-hostility towards your nemesis or nemeses.

Well, I hope my answer cleared things up for you, Faithofchristian.

I believe that is a narrow concept of slavery that does not reflect reality.
I wasn't making an attempt to define slavery, merely acknowledging that slavery is not chosen and is not anyone's prefered state so Christianity is not slavery.

Seeing you have no idea, who Lust pertains to ?
Lust pertains to those people who are Married.
As for a Man who is single, How can a man find the woman of his choice, if he doesn't have at lease some Lust for her in his heart?

As for a Woman who is single, How can a woman find the man of her choice if she doesn't have at lease some Lust for him in her heart ?

As how to Love your enemies ?

To Love your enemies, is to correct them in their error.
Let's for say, that if my enemy came at me to do me harm, I am sure not going to bow to them, No.

If my enemy came at me to do me harm, I will pick up a big club and knock them in the head, to correct them in the error of their way. That is how to love your enemies, by correcting them in the error of their way.

There are many people in the Bible, who showed their enemies, do not tread on me or my family or I will come after you and correct you in the error of your way.

Take king David for instance, did he bow down to Goliath or walk up to Goliath putting his arm around Goliath, No
king David pick up some stones and hit Goliath in the head, showing the Philistines you will show Respect and you shall get Respect back.
That is how you love your enemies by correcting them in their error of their way.

I suppose that if your enemy chop off your hand that's showing you Love ?
You really got to be kidding me.

Okay, I know you're being sarcastic here, but I guess you do have a point here. I probably should of said that it is slavery only to certain people; for example: it can be slavery to kids (specifically pre-teens), since they're more likely to follow their parents' religious belief than think for themselves.

Well, not exactly, I mean, just because you deconvert from Christianity doesn't mean that your life is going to become terrible or anything.

I was thinking more of one's eternal life.
